Less coasters and more family friendly rides.
Don’t take a family favorite and classic attraction away for a 3 min coaster ride with limited ridership due to height and health restrictions.

Maybe it’s because I don’t have kids, but I feel like everything is being geared toward families as of late. (Like Alien Encounter, they should have left that alone!) I think the variety at WDW allows it to be a great family experience even if little ones can’t ride everything. That’s the beauty of it, you don’t all have to ride the same things all the time. Without attractions that appeal to adults, it becomes just another place to take your kids. I will never be a sole patron of WDW because they don’t have enough rides for adrenaline junkies like myself. I LOVE WDW, always have, always will. But sometimes I need a fix of more adult rides. I think they have a decent balance right now, but if they tone it down too much they’ll have a problem. My opinion.

As for the speedway being something everyone can ride:

Children under the age of 12 months should not ride. Minimum 32 inches (81cm) to ride. Must be at least 54 inches (137 cm) to drive. If you do not meet the minimum height requirement you must ride with a responsible person who meets the requirement. For safety, you should be in good health and free from high blood pressure, heart, back, or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride.

I  roller coasters but we have family members that get motion sickness and can’t ride them. Plus the kid factor.
So some of our family members have nothing to do while others spend hours riding coasters.
And they really don’t like killing time while some of us ride the thrill rides.
And every time they remove a family friendly attraction for a thrill ride, that’s one less thing for them to do while others ride coasters.
So I say add all the coasters they want but don’t sacrifice family rides to do so.
I always thought that Uni was better suited for coaster riders and thrill rides (think six flags) while Disney for families.
Obviously, I can only speak about our family situation.

LOL so I guess if you are under 12 months old and over 32 inches “tall”, you are good to go as a passenger!

Well unless you have high blood pressure, heart, back, or neck problems, motion sickness, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride. LOL

@Figment I completely understand! My husband and daughter LOVE roller coasters but my son and I aren’t huge fans. I have always been a “purse holder”. That is why I love Disney. It is the one place that I can do everything and don’t feel left behind.

That eliminates just about all of us!

I remember a time when the entire family (3 generations) could ride every attraction at EPCOT!

@starbee I do like a balance for my family members that love the thrill rides. I selfishly don’t like staying behind, only because I feel like I am missing out on a memory being made. Scared to death of heights, but sometimes I make myself, like on Everest and it is one of my favorites now! However, I have never gotten stuck on it going up yet…. ;)

I completely agree. I loved Horizons and WoM. I would love to see more of those kinds of rides. When I want thrill rides, I’ll go somewhere else. I want Disney to stay Disney.

I don’t have kids either and I somewhat agree. I don’t like everything being kiddie rides but I miss the educational ride through omnimover types that bore kids these days. I love dark rides and think every Character deserves one. I do enjoy the occasional thrill ride but I’m not for inviting more teen groups into the parks. lol I think Disney is missing a good demographic when they ignore the mature couple or even solo traveler. People are always shocked when I tell them that I have been to WDW alone. It’s something that would never cross most peoples minds I guess. It was my favorite trip to date!

I’m always of the mindset that I drove from SC to FL….the last thing I want to do is drive a pain in the butt little car around Tomorrowland. lol LOL

never understood why they didn’t update the tomorrow-land speedway with electric cars (golf cart). they should do a coaster….but make it horizontal speed cycles! use the same swivel tech, they made for the dwarf mine ride.

I am not a fan of the speedway only because it makes my stomach turn from the smell, but it is a classic and a great attraction for families. I wish they would just retime it slightly and turn the cars to electric. A more futuristic look would work better from the TTA also. My take from the artical though was witht he 50th coming, that they are looking at an update for Carousel of Progress. Now I have been expereincing that since the ’64 Worlds Fair so I am ready for a bit of a change, but don’t over do it!!!!! I love that Walt actually had his hands on it and want to save the original idea, but the last scene needs an upgrade and all the dogs need a brushout!!!
