I’ve now seen Rogue One! :)

DO NOT KEEP READING IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE – SPOILERS AHEAD! – YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I enjoyed it, but I think I could summarize by saying it was good but not great. I preferred The Force Awakens for sure. Some of this I think was because although there were cameos from characters we know and love, for the most part, everyone was a new character for which we had no backstory or affinity for. And of course the original trilogy set the bar pretty high, even for Disney. I loved K-2SO, another lovable droid with great humor. I really didn’t feel that connected to Jyn or Cassian but I did like their characters and will always root for the Alliance!

I liked how the story explained why it seemed so easy for the Rebellion to destroy the Death Star, I thought it had a great plot, I just felt it was a little too complicated to follow and fully understand at times. I was disappointed that there wasn’t more of the original score, but Michael Giacchino is a great artist and he did a good job. Being really picky here, but I was also disappointed that there was no opening credit scroll, it really didn’t feel like a Star Wars movie at the outset. I was SUPER impressed with the CGI of Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia!!! I had to Google if that was really CGI or if they took clips from Episode IV and edited them with dubs to fit. You would think they were the original actors if you didn’t know better. Incredible! I was also glad to see James Earl Jones reprise his role as Vader

    WARNING: MILD SPOILERS AHEAD

I got to see it last week and loved it! It was so intense and I loved the wow factor of seeing some characters from the past show up, especially Tarkin and the fact that he had a fairly large supporting role.

This one (and you might put this as an unpopular opinion) is my new favorite Star Wars film. Previously it was Return of the Jedi (I know, I know, but I like the culmination of the light saber duel and the space battle to destroy the second Death Star).

My only big complaint is in agreement with Starbee that the absence of the opening scroll left me wanting it.

    @RocketEAR99
Right?! How can you call it Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and not start it like every other Star Wars movie?!

I think its a good stand alone. I get the process. Establish story lines that are not a part of the original series. I enjoyed the numerous Easter eggs.

D23 describes some background and the inspiration of the story. To me the worst part was the one shot this was. As mentioned earlier, character dev was weak but that was because they only had a couple hours. I would have preferred a two part story. Maybe because how they ended it was why they didnt take the time to develop the characters more.

I think you will see more stories pulled from the animated series as well.

I’m in agreement too. I thought it was a good movie but I didn’t feel coming out of the theatre amazed like when I saw Force Awakens.

    SPOILER ALERT ?
I didn’t quite think C3-PO and R2-D2 fitted in very well to the story and I couldn’t get a real connection to Forest Whitaker’s character. Some of the music I felt was a bit off to for example when they were discussing war tactics on how to retrieve the Death Star plans. Although I’ve gave a few negatives I would say it’s still a stand alone good film and shows the Star Wars franchise is in good hands.

I didn’t really understand the relevant of Forest Whitaker’s character either. I also didn’t like that his name sounded Spanish to me. I think they do a good job of creating names to sound really unique and not like any name we have on Earth, but I was disappointed with his name. Really picky I know!

Well, all those characters are toast, so, we will not see a spin off to a spin off, lol….

Felicity Jones said that if they considered a Rogue One spin-off she wouldn’t agree to it because she felt like Rogue One needed to be a standalone film

It is, but it ties the giant gap between Ep 3 and 4 together.

One of my co-workers came in the day after they saw it and said “why are there no jedi in this one?”

Well, if you saw Episode 3, you know exactly why there are no jedi!

Forest Whitakers character is from the animated series and is a prominent character in that storyline
