I hate this. We are going to be up a creek when every studio starts doing this. We think cable bills are high now? It will be worse when you have to pay every single studio to watch their movies, tv shows, etc. We will be wishing for Blockbusters return!

You’re right, it would be cheaper to do it the old fashioned way. We only hate Netflix and Hulu (which combined is about $20/month) but I still end up renting movies because what I want to watch never seems to be on either.
January 16, 2018 at 3:46 pm #63119We still do the old Netflix discs through the mail service. We like it best because unlike with streaming, everything is available! There is never a “this is going away from Netflix this month” moment when you do the DVD by mail. So we stick with it.
January 16, 2018 at 3:50 pm #63120I have Netflix and to be honest, I just watch it for certain TV shows…neither of which are Disney.
I have noticed that Disney does seem to be in the business of creating it’s own version of already existing products. This streaming service would just be the latest example. Like at WDW, they have the Minnie Vans to crush the Uber presence on property. Still, I can’t currently see myself buying into their new streaming service simply because I don’t watch any of their shows and when it comes to their movies, I like having the actual DVD/Blu-ray grace my movie shelf at home
January 16, 2018 at 4:50 pm #63149I also wonder if they have thought this through or if they are blinded by greed. If less people see their movies, less people buy their branded products whether that be at Target or online or where ever. This includes buying the movie if they loved it when they streamed it, clothes, toys, games etc. If kids don’t see their movies because mom and dad aren’t subscribing to the service, then they don’t grow up being Disney fans which impacts travel, parks, and merchandise.

brideck2 XPIt’ll be interesting to see if Disney really has enough to offer (that I don’t already have on BD/DVD) to make it worthwhile for the average consumer. My wife and I tend to start/stop our various streaming services depending on what we’re interested in watching in a given month, since you can only watch so much at once. Then again, at 1-2 hours of video entertainment a day we’re apparently way behind the curve. “the typical American watches 5 hours and 29 minutes per day of video content in one form or another.” Great googly moogly, that’s a lot of video. I wonder if that includes video/mobile games?
January 16, 2018 at 5:19 pm #63151According to the article this appears to only be in reference to TV-series type programming. Maybe I missed something but it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with movies. Recently, Disney Movies Anywhere dissolved but, Disney has joined up with Movies Anywhere. If you haven’t seen that before, you can create an account and attach your vudu, amazon, itunes accounts, etc., and see all of the movies you’ve purchased from different services in one place. So far, the ability to see your movies there is authorized at the studio level and Disney is one of them.
If Disney Channel series are removed from Netflix, I will NOT miss them. My daughter is 10. I have seen ALL the episodes of ALL the shows, ALL the millions of times I can without actually losing my sanity.

bexruns374 XPWe only have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon (which just came with Prime, so bonus!). And on none of those do I watch Disney movies. If I want to see a Disney movie, we either already own it (because we share a Vudu acct with my mom and she downloads all kinds of movies) or will own it soon.
January 17, 2018 at 1:54 pm #63319I got the Netflix and the Amazon as well. I don’t use Amazon at all, but I do use Netflix for a few Disney things like Phineas and Ferb or movies I don’t own, but generally I’m watching non-Disney. Personally, I’m hoping to just ditch all of these services for the Disney one, but I don’t think the rest of my not-so-in-love Disney family will comply.

bexruns374 XPI’ll have to see if any Disney is even on Amazon. Is it all exclusive to Netflix right now?
