The Sunday of our trip we started more rested than 2:00am the previous morning, but still quite tired. I woke up first at 9:30am and cooked breakfast for everyone: bacon, eggs, toast and french press coffee (I brought 7 different flavors of Joffrey’s Disney Collection with me
)
After breakfast we went 5 minutes down the road to church at 11:00. It was a packed house at First Baptist of Hilton Head that morning! We barely found seats, but it was a great church visit. We’re used to having to do things at our home church every Sunday morning as I play bass for the band and Christy interprets for the Deaf, so it was nice to just be able to sit together and worship with no strings attached
After church we went to the local Publix to pick up a handful of groceries that Mom and Christy weren’t able to get at Kroger the day before. We got back to the condo and Maverick, other than needing to be let out, had finally made himself comfortable. I got a small bite to eat for lunch in the way of a roast beef sandwich and then took a 4-hour nap. Almost everyone else took naps, but probably not as long as I did. None of us went to the beach since we were too tired. I did some reading for a bit after waking up. I brought 2 books with me: Never Call Retreat by Bruce Catton (the 3rd in a series of 3 books about the history of the Civil War), and Kingdom Keepers IV: Power Play by Ridley Pearson. The former I had started and intended to finish over the course of the week. The latter I hadn’t yet begun reading.
After reading a chapter of Never Call Retreat, Mom, Christy and I cooked dinner. Mom made macaroni and cheese, Christy prepared salad and I grilled rib-eye steaks. Following dinner we watched the first half of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (extended edition). It was a nice ending to our first day. We turned in around 11:00pm, finally feeling rested, but sleepy once again.
