OK. We have tried to go to DL twice and had to cancel both times. I am considering it again for our family but have a few questions as to whether or not this is the year. I saw the thread below with lots of good tips! Here are some of my questions:

    1) I was looking at the first week of June. There are Grad Nights — a bunch of them. What kind of impact does that have?

    2) Fantasmic is down as are all of the boats. We would enjoy the boats, but wouldn’t cancel a trip over them. Paint The Night is also down and that is quite disappointing. We have seen Main Street Electrical Parade many times but not Paint the Night. So with two of the major nighttime shows down, should we wait and go another time?

    3) How good is Touring Plans when it comes to DL? Are their wait time estimates and crowd calendar pretty good? What websites, forums, etc. do you feel are the best resources to research (beyond d-cot of course!)?

    Thank you! :ears:

    June is busy. And hot.

    1) Grad night will impact both parks pretty heavily. I believe they have it at one now, so that park closes early and that means the crowds from that park…go to the other. Being that it’s June, a lot of schools are already out. A lot of locals go there after work to hang out, since APs are easier to come by with the payment plans, meaning evening crowds are ridic.

2)While the boats are down, you can still go on the docked Mark Twain and tour it. It’s not as exciting, but at least you can still see it.
I’ve heard Paint the Night will return after MSEP goes away mid June, but not sure if that’s confirmed.

    3) I straight up use the Disneyland app in re: to wait times. It’s generally pretty accurate. I’ve used isitpacked.com to see how the crowd levels are but I can say with confidence that the first week in June will be absolutely packed.

My suggestion to out of towners is come in early September (if you can) after schools are back in. There’s no major holidays and all that jazz.

Hopefully I helped a bit. I know @eeyorepoohfan will probably have some suggestions as well.

    1) Oh man, I forgot about grad nights in early June! My sister and her family used to like to go that first week, but they also didn’t stay past dinner time. So it didn’t effect them like it would average guests. So your park hours will be shorter due to that, at least at whichever park they host them in. Which then means the other park will be packed in the evening. I think that anymore, DL is going to be packed from Memorial Day up until Labor Day weekend (which is a half marathon race weekend as well). I do know that sometimes you can go in early/mid August and it’s not so bad on crowds due to so many schools being year round. So that means kids often go back in late July. We did WDW for my actual birthday (August 14th) and honestly thought the crowds weren’t bad at all compared to July crowds. So I would think DL would be similar, besides the fact that there are so many more locals that pop over. My ideal time for DL is late September or October (avoided Columbus day weekend and Halloween). The temps are great and crowds are lower. If you could go in early May (and avoided Mother’s day weekend (Tinkerbell half marathon weekend) the crowds should be nice and low.
    2) The Rivers of America will open sometime this summer. I don’t know that they’ve released the exact date. So if that is something you would like to see, then you would be looking to book sometime later summer to guarantee it’s all running. Once it’s back up, then Fantasmic should start running again, along with Mark Twain and Sailing Ship Columbia. They claim that Pain the Night is going seasonal and during busy season. So theoretically, once the MSEP ends in early June, Paint the Night might go back into rotation. There is no guarantee or confirmation of this that I have heard yet. If parades are shows are that important to you, then yes, I would wait to go another time when they might guarantee them. But I would think and hope that Paint the Night will be going all summer, due to crowd levels. I personally like DL Fantasmic show better. But you do have to sit on the ground and get there pretty early.
    3) I haven’t used any touring plans for either coast. I use the DL app and keep it handy at all times! It tells you current wait time and also if Fast Passes are still available for an attraction, along with the return time window. This really saves you from walking across the park to be disappointed if they are out or have a long stand-by wait time. There is a lot less pre-planning to go to DL. You don’t pre-book FP’s. They are old school paper and have to follow the waiting period printed on the FP ticket to know when you are eligible for the next one. The app is very accurate and helpful. Just a heads up, they do not have free wifi at DL. And since you are bouncing off of nearby cell towers, my battery drains a whole lot faster at DL. And you also have to be mindful of data usage if you don’t have unlimited. I believe we have 6 gigs for our month and are fine, but we’ve cut it close at DL.

Let me know if you have other questions or need clarifications! I’m happy to help! I’m a DL veteran and have been at least 2-3 dozen times in my life! We typically like to go for at least 4 days just to make sure we have time to see things, but also relax and take in the atmosphere as well. @imarebelpilot did a great job covering things too!

Thank you, both! We can’t go in the off-season. My daughter is starting middle school so the days of pulling her out of school have ended. So that leaves summer or spring break.

    A few more questions:

    1) If I go later in June, it will be more crowded but we won’t have grad nights. So maybe the crowds at night won’t be as thick if spread across both parks?

    2) What do you mean by “hot?” I look at the weather averages and they seem wonderful to me. Granted, I live in Houston which has weather very similar to Disney World — lots of humidity and high temps.

The park hours should be longer in late June. So that does help with crowds for sure! I think they can be busier during spring break since more people are trying to go in just a few weeks span. Whereas the summer distributes the crowds more evenly.

Hot meaning they can be in the high 90’s and even hit 100 periodically. I live in the desert and feel like it’s hot there. They don’t have the shade and coverings at DL like they do at WDW. So you are directly in the elements. You usually don’t have shade or air conditioning until much closer to a boarding area. So wearing hats will be helpful and taking plenty of water. We take our Camelbak pack to take plenty of ice water. Then we usually throw in a few bottles too.

Probably way to late to help, but I suggest the second week of June. The grad nights will affect the crowds some, but not nearly as much as the SoCal passholders. They get blacked out after the first week of June so the 2nd through 4th weeks actually won’t be as busy as that first week. At least, that’s been my experience.

As for Touring Plans and IsItPacked, I’ve found those calendars to be completely wrong the last 2 years. Right now, it’s almost always crowded at DL. It’s rare when there’s a week that doesn’t have big crowds, and it’s pretty random when those weeks show up.

Thanks, everyone. We got so overwhelmed trying to find a date as well as my wife missed a lot of time from work with an unplanned surgery we decided to wait until next year. :(

I hope everything is ok!

Disneyland will still be here next year, so our advice will still all be pretty valid :)

Thank you! All is OK. But an unplanned six weeks off of work makes it hard to ask off as soon as you get back! LOL

It’s for Disney though, surely they’d understand ;)
