Just read an article on wdwnt news app talking about changes to fastpass security starting next week to prevent cheaters from somehow using expired tickets to book fastpasses. It went on to talk about 3rd party tour services people pay to guide them around the parks and get them prime fastpasses? First off I had no idea this was even a thing, and secondly bravo Disney,

Once again, it seems the paper system was far less complicated. But oh well! What’s done is done.

I saw that, I think that’s a lot of trouble to get fast passes ! I did like the paper ones from before, it’s sad people have to cheat !!

Is it just me, or does fast pass plus make the standby lines really long and good fast passes really scarce?

    It really does.

This happened two weeks ago, both at Figment and Splash Mountain. The line for each seemed reasonable (Figment 20, Splash 45). We waited a half hour for Figment before leaving for a lunch reservation, but for Splash, it took us AN HOUR AND A HALF. We believe this has to do with Fastpass.

Earlier on in the day, both attractions had broken down. All Fastpasses during that time may be used for a single separate attraction once for the rest of the day. But most people save the Fastpass for when the ride is back up. The standby queue then gets all backed up and there are LOTS OF COMPLAINING GROUCHY PEOPLE. Fastpass is pretty ridiculous sometimes. :hmmph:

This is what happens when you try to fix something that isn’t broken! I can’t imagine this is more cost effective or time saving than the old way. Would love to see a wait times study of each attraction with the current system and the old system.

Josh on EasyWDW more or less did that. BIG difference between the two for sure. Before FP+ Spaceship Earth was a walk-on much of the time, but then when it was added to FP+ and they tiered Epcot’s system, The line would actually wrap the extended queue. I was astonished! That said, HS is much worse as MOST of the attractions on FP+ there are Tier 1’s and the Tier 2’s, save for ToT are most always walk-ons, so you don’t need a FP for them :P

Sorry for the rant. I just can’t get over the silliness of it all.

Don’t be sorry! Thanks for the great info. I’m with you at how dumb this whole new system is.

I don’t miss the old system of getting there fairly early and still finding the Fastpasses gone.
(Toy Story immediately comes to mind)
And having to walk half the park just to get Fastpasses for the rest of the day.

And it seems like it shouldn’t be that difficult to tweak the software to eliminate most of the cheating.
The system should be able to identify an expired ticket and block it from doing anything.
At the least a ticket not used for entry that day should generate a ‘go talk to a person’ message.

Funny thing with all this tech is theres always someone smarter and willing to hack and cheat! A simple fix to the old system would have been to put up more distribution stations. The lines and waits are no better now. Try to get a decent time for your trip now or a spur of the moment trip and you’d be lucky to get on 1 so called tier 1 attraction. I can create unlimited accounts on the MDE app and just wipe out fast passes every day. so stupid.

    My thoughts on the article:

I’ve heard many people say that FP+ is great because it’s a more effective system than the paper tickets, where people would show up with expired tickets and still be allowed in line, and that would annoy other guests. Clearly this article shows that’s wrong. Showing up after your FP expired is one thing, but there are apparently people profiting off of the loophole in this new system, according to that article. It seems the new system is allowing far more people to “cheat” than was every possible with paper FP if you showed up after your time slot was over. So, I think this change in FP system has made that aspect worse. Clearly they’re taking measures to rectify it, but as other D-Cotters have already mentioned, that’s a lot of time and money they didn’t need to spend, and who will pay for that? You guessed it!

Also, I think a lot of the cheating falls down on CMs. They shouldn’t have been allowing people with expired paper FPs to join the line, and with this new system they could still give the cheaters the benefit of the doubt if they want to be nice and let them join the line, despite seeing a message that they’ve abused the system. I wonder how strict they will actually be.

No, it’s not just you. I’ve thought the same thing since the introduction of FP+. Standby lines are longer, FPs are fewer, so you end up achieving much less than you used to. I know some people don’t like running around the park for paper FPs, but why can’t we have that option if we want it? For those who don’t they can stick to their 3 FP+ and for those of us who would rather run around the park to get more FPs to be able to ride more things, instead of stand in 1 hour lines all day, we can.

This will just be the tip of the ice berg! Mark my words the hacking will start soon. All this does is add to the impersonal lack of personal skills generation. Just look around every is looking down at the stupid phones! The place could just be an unfinished construction sit and no one would even notice! Disney is supposed to be an escape from reality for me. I don’t want to have to constantly be looking at my screen! Not to mention all hunch backs we’re going to have walking around in 40 -50 years!

Don’t apologize at all! I’m with you! While it’s nice to be able to schedule a FP for later in the day without being at the park in the morning to grab your FP, that’s about the end of the list of why I like FP+. (And that’s not something I do often). You could argue it’s easier not to have to flash a piece of paper you’ve been guarding with your life all day, but that wasn’t really a big deal to me.

Thanks for sharing that info because that has certainly been my experience but I had no “evidence” or research to back that up. I just know the wait times doubled and tripled between the trip where I used paper FP and my first FP+ trip – and I went the exact same week both times! Spaceship Earth and The Great Movie Ride had been walk-ons for me every time for over 20 trips, but not once FP+ was born. Both were constant 45 minute waits! I think the tiers, plus the limit in FPs per day (because let’s be honest, if you get a 4th, there’s no chance it will be anything good) have inflated the standby lines beyond belief. It irritates me to no end.
