Because they’re the only people who can afford to pay an extra $50 a person for those perks
January 10, 2018 at 4:48 pm #62275Doesn’t exactly seem fair. Seems more like a money grab. Oh wait, it is a money grab
January 10, 2018 at 5:49 pm #62281The extra Fast Passes are not a big deal IMHO. Think about how many locals book FP for a day and just don’t use them. But, it comes down to Disney doing what it does best lately and that is… extra perks for the people that have the money to do so. Wait, did you hear that sound? I think I heard Walt rolling around in his grave (oh wait no he’s frozen right?).
January 11, 2018 at 7:56 am #62307Yep… Disney is soon gonna become a destination for the RICH! I can barely afford to stay in Moderates anymore! And now, they are adding a fancy high rise to my beloved Coronado Springs Resort… I’m sitting here hoping and praying that doesn’t cause the regular rooms in Casitas to be jacked up!
The extra fast passes don’t bother me at ALL, because honestly on my last 2 trips I fully utilized the FP system from my phone and was able to get 8 & 9 FP’s each day by just adding more once my last one was used. All it takes is someone with a cell phone to do it for FREE! I’m not paying an extra $50 to do something that I can figure out for free…. Derp!!!!! Nice try Disney!

bexruns374 XPNot to go too far OT because this is the WDW forum but @acamm this is similar to what’s going on at DL with the new hotel they’re building (the reason why all runDisney races there are on hiatus). It’s supposed to be $500/night. WHO CAN AFFORD THAT?! I can’t even for 1 night! I can’t imagine you coming here for a week and paying $500/night on top of park tickets, food and such.
January 12, 2018 at 12:47 pm #62551@bexruns NOOOOOOOPE! $500 per night is ridiculous!!! I’m actually reconsidering my Disneyland Resort choice and switching it to a Good Neighbor hotel…..

Where were you going to stay? Where are you looking at?
January 12, 2018 at 12:56 pm #62555@bexruns we currently have reservations at Paradise Pier for 7 nights. We are looking at the Hilton but it looks like a long walk….

I haven’t checked DL resort prices in a long while but I remember thinking, nope, too rich for my blood! And it’s not like at WDW where on site gives you perks like Magical Express and bus service to the parks, which you don’t need in DL! (I don’t think they have a ME equivalent, but I am not 100% certain, I think it was a regular bus company that could get you to DL). Anyway, I have stayed at a cute little hotel with a courtyard and pool, walking distance to the parks, not that far at all, not right across the street but little bit behind it. I will see if I can find what the name of it is. The room was small but it was only for sleeping anyway!
Back to the topic! I would never pay 50$ for 3 extra FPs, like @acamm said, if you know how to work MDE then you are fine, although I guess booking them 90 days in advance and 6 of them at a time, it could get you hard to get FPs. I don’t see the appeal with the after hours ticket either. Maybe if it was a once in a lifetime trip and you had limited time to get it all done.
January 12, 2018 at 1:15 pm #62562@stupidjudy I just priced out the Stovall hotel at DL which @bexruns and @eeyorepoohfan both recommended previously, and it is LITERALLY 1/2 the price of my current reservation
January 12, 2018 at 1:37 pm #62569@Acamm It’s totally your call!! Like others have said, and I’ve said before, I feel no need to stay on property at DL. However, if you’ve never been before, or it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity, it’s still something to consider. We have stayed at Stovall’s countless times and always have a great experience! It’s a super fast and easy walk to the parks. The only benefit to on property is that you get early entry hours on certain days. Then I believe your multiday hopper tickets get you at least one as well. If you want to go to your room to relax, and have a theme park view, it will be a special experience at Paradise Pier. If you are literally sleeping and showering, save the money!

I believe it! I sent you the hotel link by PM. I don’t know if staying onsite is worth it, maybe a split stay? Last night in DL hotel? I would do that! I got to stay at the Grand Californian for a weekend, that was A-MAZING. Even more fun when it’s free!
January 12, 2018 at 1:51 pm #62572I didn’t read that closely, but if you get 3 other fast passes do they still have to be 1) at the same park and 2) do you get an extra in the first “tier”?
I still wouldn’t pay for it, but curious…also @Acamm no clue how you get 8 FPs a day. I find the fact that the windows can’t overlap (even by 5 minutes) makes it difficult to get more than 4-5!

StupidJudy71 XPCopy pasted the text here:
For $50 plus tax per Guest per day, Guests staying in eligible rooms who have purchased a 3-day or longer theme park ticket or an annual pass are able to purchase a Theme Park Extra to receive the following:
3 additional FastPass+ selections per day. FastPass+ attractions and arrival windows are limited. 3-day minimum purchase required.
Ability to reserve these 3 additional FastPass+ selections in more than 1 theme park when a valid Park Hopper option is purchased with the ticket.A booking window of up to 90 days in advance for these 3 additional FastPass+ selections and the ability to book them at multiple top-tier attractions. Guests may not repeat the same FastPass+ attraction in the same day.
1 preferred viewing location for nighttime spectaculars per day. Availability of each nighttime spectacular preferred viewing location is limited.
@jamiedawn27 looks like you could book more than one per tier but no repeats! You could do multiple parks with Park Hopper. Interesting.
