Well all, here we go, just a little over a week till we leave for WDW and we are ready to reveal some of our Fort Wilderness decorations. For those of you who don’t know, site decorating at Fort Wilderness is a thing, a BIG thing.
I can say it has been a journey filled with love, terror, consternation, sweat, tears and blood. Yep, those Exacto knives are sharp! And still going on, I feel we will be doing stuff on the drive out.
Anyhow on with the show, as they say.
Firstly, when at the Fort every camper worth their salt needs a golf cart, and that cart needs a license plate. Thusly, ours.

Do you know if you can rent golf carts even if you’re just visiting? When is your trip? Maybe we can visit?
October 3, 2022 at 10:36 am #160155The tombstones are fantastic! I love how you’re incorporating “deceased” rides and attractions! You could do a whole graveyard of those.
October 3, 2022 at 10:45 am #160156October 3, 2022 at 10:50 am #160161Now for some close ups, first, PaydirtBurt’s tombstone. Will say working on this was fun, but even though it was for fun it was a bit sobering to be working on one’s tombstone.
That skull in the lower left will be a sugar skull by the end of this week.
So my favorite ride in, you guess it Space Mountain. And of course my Disney version of RIP (Ride In Peace). Also I have have to commission that urn in ceramic!
October 3, 2022 at 10:54 am #160164My wife, bless her soul for putting up with me and my constant fretting, I can be a perfectionist.
Still, who hasn’t felt this way?
The clock face says “Tempus Tuum Venit”, or “your Time Has Come.” Which at last MNSSHP the Cast members at the Haunted mansion were saying as they threw the doors open. Thus a little inside joke.
October 3, 2022 at 10:59 am #160168Next is our friend Karin. She is an Annual Pass holder , still need to make that, but I love the skeleton! With the MagicBand and Annual Pass it will be great! She will be visiting with us.
PS, she doesn’t know we have done this, so don’t spill the beans, this is just between us. Should be quite the shock when we drive her up!

October 3, 2022 at 11:12 am #160176Taker her down deep! Prepare repelling charges!
Well it looks like this last Nautilus, like the 20K ride, is not going to make it, gripped in the death clutches of a disgruntled giant squid! Anyone for calamari?
While the pic does not really convey it the “picture” is actually behind the tombstone and the one tentacle comes over the tombstone in a 3D way along with the waves. Really should work well in the dark with the shadows.
October 3, 2022 at 11:16 am #160177@warrsm, its a good way to keep those creative juices flowing.
October 3, 2022 at 11:29 am #160178Technical specifications, these are painted on 1/2″ thick pink foam insulation, available at most all home improvement store in 4’x8′ sheets, all I needed was one sheet for all these. Paint, just acrylics from Hobby Lobby then coated with clear enamel spray paint. Each one is approximately 1.5′ by at least 2.5′, so pretty big.
October 3, 2022 at 11:46 am #160180This time around I’m retreading my costume from last MNSSHP, a pit crew member for Herbie the Love Bug.
Some of the details you cant see is may name is Ötto (get it?) and I work for “Tang Wu Motorsports”, in the end of the first film Tang Wu wins Herbie.
On one sleeve the little VW head man, you can barely see him, is wearing Mikey ears and on the other is a badge for the El Dorado Road Race, from the first film, that I created. The hat is a “53” hat with the OFP-857 plate on the back.
Quick Herbie Trivia. The original Herbie is a 1963 VW Bug. the license plat OFP-857 was wehn Producer Robert Stevenson first worked with Disney in August of 1957 [857] and OFP stood for ‘Our First Production’. Herbie’s trademark “53” racing number was chosen by producer Bill Walsh, who was a fan of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player Don Drysdale, #53. In the first film, the Volkswagen brand name, logo or shield does not feature anywhere in the film, as the automaker did not permit Disney to use the name. Yea, they changed their mid after it was a hit!
“Action shot” of me at the last MNSSHP checking out the” racing scene.” Actually, if you watch the 1971 opening special you WILL see Herbie on this track!
