Well just got a chance to listen to Bob Iger’s book, The Ride of a Lifetime: Lessons Learned from 15 Years as CEO of the Walt Disney Company.

First the book ends shortly before his “first” retirement and the start of the Chapek era and COVID era. Interesting read, or listen in this case. It was fun to hear the back stories on some of the things that have gone on at ABC and Disney. The book offered an interesting look in to Michel Eisner ear also.

A few of my take aways:

Sorry to break it to you kids, Luck is more important than actual knowledge or even hard work in getting somewhere in live. Actually that seems to be a theme, IMHO, in the Iger, Mathew McCaughey, Walt Disney, Roy Disney, Etc. books I have read or listened to.

Bob Iger does care about Disney and understands that heading Disney is the caretaker of a Legacy position, not just a corporate CEO. Now that caretaker has to balance keeping the company solvent and keeping the guests/consumers happy.

The media business, well TV in particular is wayyyyyyyy tooooooo cut-throat for me!

No mater the level of business, most everything still operates on a personal level. For example his interactions with Steve Jobs.

    Well there you go!
