    actually, now that i’m thinking about it, when we went in 2017, i didn’t finish my green beans so our waitress brought it back out with whipped cream and m&ms on top and said it was my dessert! i guess it just depends who your server is

    This is hilarious! I never heard of the servers doing this before! LOL I like how we get yelled at for having our elbows on the table or using our phones. They still have no idea what a cell phone is. LOL

    @Steve now that you mentioned it, back in the 50’s cell phones didn’t exist. After i had my meal being a clean plate club member i got a chance to meet a young girl i don’t know what her name was but I was a little embarrassed but I got to know her. That had to be like a George Costanza moment.

    @starbee she was nice and not too stern LOL she told us to get off our walkie talkies (meaning our cell phones). But they were really busy when we were there and it was around 6:30, it took a while to get our food and that was the only complaint I had. The waitress was nice but slow to come to our table because of it being so busy

    As long as they give you the interaction you expect from 50’s Prime Time I can handle being slow!

    We took at trip 15 years ago with 3 other families. Joanne went to the ladies room. The server came to our table and asked where Cousin Joanne was. I said in the potty. The server stomped her foot and said she didnt ask permission to leave the table. So I dialed Joanne on my mobile and gave it to the server who proceeded to scold Joanne while she was in the restroom.

    When she got back to the table, the server demanded she get up and put her nose in the corner. We were all laughing so hard we could not eat.

    @julia That’s hysterical! LOL
    Yes I find it really hit or miss now which is super disappointing :( we went a few times over the years and it was always hilarious, but then on my last trip in 2017 I took my husband for the first time and we had no interaction whatsoever. In fact, the server was just absent, period. They were super busy but still, other servers were being entertaining with other tables. We had to flag our server down to get him to take our order and flag him down again to get our check. He never refilled our drinks either. Bad experience all around. But that’s not to say I won’t go back, I actually have an ADR for 50’s Prime Time for my next trip this October. When you’ve been as many times as I have, I feel like it’s impossible not to have a bad experience here and there.

    OMG that is hilarious! I think it is kind of backwards to let the staff choose whether they want to participate or not??? Some if not most of us are paying to eat there for that reason alone. It should be the guests option.

    Sounds like you got the same drip of a waiter we had on our last visit. He was sandy blond with a ponytail. I get just a waiter even when I ask for a playful server. When you even try to joke around with them they just look at you like they don’t have time for your crap. It’s awful. One way to encourage them to play along is to stop tipping the servers that don’t and leave a note written in crayon on the placemat that says, “you should have played along!” LOL LOL Sounds harsh but I don’t tip for bad service and not playing along in a themed restaurant where you’ve specifically asked for a server who will is bad service to me. Word would get around pretty fast if that was a frequent happening. The veterans training the newbies would surely put it out there that you’ll make much better tips if you play the part and likely get stiffed if you don’t”. You’ve got to protest with your pocketbooks. But that’s just me and I’m mean like that. lol

    i do not wish to sound critical, but I was a waiter and when it is busy, just keeping up with hot service up’s can be overwhelming. Especially if they are short a server and there are multiple downs at the same time. 50’s is always packed. I can see how one person who is late, or calls in sick can throw the place into a turmoil.

    @dngnb8 i completely agree! i’m a waitress right now, and what people to seem to forget is that we’re human too! i’ve gone into work having had horrible days, and of course its always on a day that you’re in a bad mood that the restaurant is packed! i really feel for the 50s waitstaff, because i’m sure if they are having a bad day the last thing they wanna do is “get into character.”

    @disneydana
    not to sound like a b****, but i really do believe you should tip the waitstaff, even if they’re not doing the shtick. us waiters/waitress rely on tips to pay the bills, and like i said above, we’re human too and sometimes we have bad days just like everyone else.

    I should’ve re-worded this. I do always tip something but it will be the bare minimum instead of being rewarded for great service. Bad day or not, this is your job. What are the odds that 5 times in a row I get stuck with someone with a bad day? When I was growing up, I was always told to check my problems at the door of my job. I’m definitely not a part of the entitlement era. I’m in a tipping industry as well and I’m fully aware that if I don’t put on that smiling face and do a good job, not only will I not get a decent tip, but the chance of that person wanting to come back to me is going to be slim to none. I can’t take out MY bad day on my clients hair BECAUSE I have bills to pay, and I’m grown enough to know how to do my job even on the days that I totally couldn’t care less to be there….and believe me there are MANY of those days. LOL It’s because I can fake it till I make it is the reason why I have a thriving business and have the luxury of going to Disney all over the country several times a year. That’s kind of my point with the tipping thing. Either you can choose to be professional or you can make less money and watch others around you succeed. I’m definitely not trying to argue or anything, I’m just really passionate about this because I see it all the time. I had a best friend once that decided to get away from working commision in the salon at the same time the rest of us decided to go out on our own. We all went to the same salon to rent a booth and after about 6 months she couldn’t make it working for herself because in this industry you rely 75% on your personality and 25% talent. We’re even taught that in Cosmetology school. Well this girl was sooo hateful and I mean just a natural smarta$$ ya know? She wasn’t the type that could NOT be herself and this was oh about 2004 and to this day she STILL works in the mall for 50% commision, where there is constant foot traffic and you don’t have to rely on repeat business, constantly badmouthing her clients on facebook and complaining about all of her bad luck and hard times, instead of simply “playing along” so to speak, like the rest of us. Everyone else that went out on our own is successful and never had to go back to where we started. So the moral of the story is, LOL LOL LOL If you work in a field where you expect the customer to supplement your income like I do….you gots to leave your tude at the door. :P LOL

    Of course but hectic or not you still need to do your job to the best of your ability. It doesn’t take much effort to tell someone, “elbows off the table” etc. If one person is in the weeds, they all probably are, but I can sit at my table and watch all of the other waitstaff doing their jobs. I do think the problem is not so much that they’re too busy, but that Disney is letting them choose whether or not to participate and that’s not really fair to the paying customer that might be ONLY going there because of the antics. I on more than one occasion have booked it, so that I could take a friend and told them all about how it works, only to be let down and looking foolish to that friends who’s sitting there saying, “why aren’t they doing what you said?” It’s just a little pet peeve of mine about the place and I honestly think we can thank the era of “I’m offended” for this one. Everyone loses because a few complain. State of the world right now sadly. :smirk:
