chris_white2323327 XPI’m seeing more and more where you can pay to attend events with so-called Disney online celebrities, or even more audacious, contribute to their food and beverage orders or other upsell type experience, and you’ll get a social media shout out, picture, or memorabilia.
On the one hand I’m amused by this, because while there are some people I’d like to meet, I don’t know that I want to pay for someone to have a special Food and Wine Festival churro. Seems kind of nervy to me. But in all fairness, they’re not forcing anyone to contribute. Just thought I’d throw this out there.
September 3, 2018 at 9:49 am #87561@chris_white2323 This is insanity to me… my opinion is…. NO WAY JOSE!
I follow a lot of Disney Vloggers, Disney Bloggers, and Disney Youtubers…. however I would never pay to meet them or be forced to buy them food. Nope. I feel like I support them enough by following them on social media and ‘liking’ their videos… they get paid $$ from Youtube just from my viewership! Sounds to me like someone is getting greedy… and will turn me off from even following them.
Just my opinion… for what its worth

chris_white2323327 XPdon’t get me wrong – if you’ve done this, I’m not judging. I’d love to find a way to monetize my fandom (I mean, I do have that countdown/weather app….) so maybe I’m the last person who should post this topic. but to say “hey, I’m going to F&W! If you contribute $10 I’ll let you pick a menu item and we’ll order it!” seems a bit much.

chris_white2323327 XPexactly. support people you like, however you like. and there are a few that maybe I would contribute to, but it’d be more towards helping them fundraise for charity, which a lot of them do. this smacks of one personality’s efforts to book slots to attend Not So Scary with him for $249/person.
September 3, 2018 at 10:09 am #87567I work too hard for my money…if I give it away it will be to my church or a charity that needs it. These people begging for others to send them stuff should be ashamed. Get off your couch and get a real job.

chris_white2323327 XPyeah, or give something more of value than a social media shout-out or a signed park map or photo. I guess it shows the “value” of social media notoriety for them and for everyday people who want to see themselves recognized. I’m subject to that to a certain degree, but thankfully to this point have resisted the call of paying to have someone post a one time Instagram thing for me or whatever.
September 3, 2018 at 10:48 am #87575I must admit i’ve never heard of them doing this, but as per your point @chris_white2323 its all about Value. I suppose if a person is willing to pay the price for something which i do agree sounds silly, then it must in a way be of value to them too. People do pay money for appearances from celebrities as such at parties and the like, plus they do ‘sponsor’ them to do events and mention their names. To me it just seems like a strange variation on that. If you’ve got the money and are willing to spend it on what they Celeb is willing to offer (whether it be an appearance or menu selection) then it is of value to both parties? Not how i’d spend my money for sure but i can at least understand the idea, even if its not for me, personally.
September 3, 2018 at 10:51 am #87577As a “social media personality” myself, I can kind of understand it. YouTube pays very little, and getting hit with a demonetization can devastate your finances IF you rely on YouTube alone. So these personalities look for another form of income (instead of getting a real job) because some people want to support more than just likes. Sometimes the support gets a little overwhelming and you find yourself with more money than you need.
Unfortunately, there are some people who really don’t need it and will use this to their advantage, but that’s part of capitalism. More money draws some people in. And some people are willing donate money for someone else to eat a churro, which is a bit ridiculous, but it does happen. I’m not supporting this, but I can get the reasoning.

chris_white2323327 XPyeah – don’t get me wrong, these people are well within their rights to ask their audience to support this, just as the audience can do whatever they wish. and of course, I don’t have the online footprint any of these people do, so in a way it’s very difficult for me to imagine a favorable reaction at all if I were to offer Twitter or IG shout-outs for someone who pays for my snack or drink. at the same time, probably a good idea that’s the case because I have to admit I’d probably be one of the people who’d abuse it. something like:
CONTRIBUTE TO MY GOFUNDME AND I’LL MENTION YOU FOR 2 SECONDS IN MY VLOG FROM THE SPECIAL DESSERT PARTY!!!!!!!!!

Grumpytude499 XPI wonder if I could do this to drink around the world?

Just to be clear, that was very tongue in cheek. I would never do that. Mostly because I can’t guarantee that I would say something nice. But still…..
