    Hello All,
I’ll be taking my 80+ mom to Vero Beach for a relaxing week this spring. Neither of us have been before and would love any info, tips and recommendations for the Vero Beach area as well as anything specific for the Disney Resort itself. Mom loves nature, gardens and history but her mobility is limited to walking for an hour or so at a time. Restaurant recommendations are welcome as well.

    Thank you! :)

It’s been 6 years this May since we were last there, but I will tell you we absolutely loved it! It is such a gorgeous and special place. Keep in mind everything we experienced was pre-pandemic so I can’t say it’s still all available. But they had crafts and such. You could decorate a wine glass to take home with you! Enjoy some Mickey waffles and they do have Dole Whips if so inclined. Hammocks around the property are wonderful for a little relaxation time. The beach is absolutely pristine! We just loved it, the feel of the sand, seeing the turtle nests, if you’re lucky one or even more may nest while you’re there!

I’m going to tag @jamiedawn27 here, she had been much more recently. I’m sure she can provide some insight also.

we went in October so we missed the major turtle nesting season. regardless we had a blast just doing the beach, shuffleboard, mini golf and pool. if you like a good cup of coffee, go to the bar in the main house in the morning and order a cup then grab a table on the terrace with a view of the ocean. we did that almost every day and loved it. the gym and the pool are very nice. we tried to do kayaking but it was canceled due to winds. we did pin trading (several spots if you look) and ate two times as the restaurant (breakfast and a dinner). the food was excellent – get reservations just in case. i wanted to do the spa but it fills up fast so definitely make reservations ahead of time (maybe the day you arrive if you are staying a week). we left the property a few days but it was for longer trips…Kennedy space center and Sea World. both were about a 1.5 hour drive. we did go into Vero Beach once…hit a few shops and a good little restaurant with only outdoor seating called Casey’s.

honestly tho we were happy every day just bumming around the resort. it was quiet and relaxing. there are daily activities such as crafts and a sea turtle talk (that was cool). in the summer i know they do walking tours of the beach with sea turtle folks…i think you just meet them on the beach in the morning. the shop is a nice size (bigger and better than Hilton Head) and the carryout food was very good as well. every day had staples like salads and sandwiches but then they had rotating meals at night that were different every day…pasta, meats, etc. all were good. oh and the coolers are FULL of desserts. you won’t go hungry. prices were not as bad as the parks. pretty much in line with fast food at home.

i already told the hubby we should go back and take the entire fam next year for our anniversary and the kids’ graduations. we’ll see. it was a great trip.

Hi! This is so exciting! :D my last trip to Vero Beach was in December, so I can speak to BC and AC (Before Covid and After Covid ;) )

If you wanted to stay completely at the resort, you absolutely could. There is enough to keep you entertained! You can rent bikes, play miniature golf, rent board/card games, play shuffleboard, swim at the pool, go to the beach, work out at the gym, peruse the mercantile, participate in numerous events at the community center, enjoy an adult beverage in the Green Cabin Room, see live music – you will never be bored! But there’s also some cool stuff to do off campus too.

A favorite restaurant of mine away from Disney’s resort is Captain Hiram’s in Sebastian. We went there on our last trip and it didn’t disappoint! We also enjoy visiting the Mel Fisher Treasure Museum in Sebastian. Not sure if that would be too much standing/walking for your mom but the museum isn’t huge. If history is of interest (and pirates too) it’s worth a visit.

That’s all I can think of right off the bat, but feel free to ask any questions :) I’ll chime in again if I think of something else

Thank you All – this is very helpful information!!
We are really looking forward to our first time at this resort. It sound like we will be able to take it as slow and relaxing as we like.
We’ve made a breakfast and a dinner reservation at the resort restaurant and will check out the daily crafts & events.
Also, I like the idea of an afternoon at the Treasure Museum and the surrounding area.
Another thing I thought about is brining our own beach chairs and umbrella so we don’t have to pay every day, I’m hoping that is allowed.
Thanks so much for the advice!! :)

It’s a beautiful resort. And yes you will! Relaxation is the name of the game at Vero  I’m glad you made reservations because with there only being 1 table service restaurant at the resort, walk ins can be difficult. Fun fact, there is a standard menu at Wind & Waves but there is also the daily special menu which changes each day. The server will usually tell you but you can also find those offerings on the chalkboard next to the host stand.

Daily crafts and events are found on a flyer that they will hand to you at check-in. If you lose it or need another copy, you can pick one up at Eb & Flo’s Rentals near the pool. They usually have a board posted too of the activities. Some activities require registration in advance, and not everything is free so keep that in mind. Also, we found they did not communicate cancellations very well. The campfire sing along was cancelled on the first night of our trip but that wasn’t communicated. We skipped desert at dinner to make sure we made it out in time for s’mores and it turns out we shouldn’t have :(

I am not sure on the beach chairs and umbrella but I would think it’s okay to bring your own. I don’t envision CMs traipsing along the beach telling you to put your own umbrella and chair away, but I’ve personally never brought my own.
