This weekend was my first time riding Soarin’ since it changed from Soarin’ Over California to Soarin’ over the World.

It’s cool and all…..but I’m not sure I love it. So much CGI.

I loved the CA version because it was real. I don’t like change!

I haven’t experienced Soarin’ Over the World yet, so I can’t comment on that, but I’m disappointed to hear there’s a lot of CGI. I liked that Soarin’ Over California was real footage. I don’t always like change and I’m sad that some of my favorite scenes and scents are gone :( I hope I like the new version. At least we still have Patrick Warburton!

If it’s any comfort, I thought Soarin’ Over the World was very cool. I did enjoy Soarin’ Over California, and some of the scenes in it, but I think the new version is a suitable upgrade :) I find it difficult to pick one over the other.

I’ve ridden both… several times each actually! To be honest, I love them both equally. Personally, the CGI doesn’t sway my view or opinion at all. They are both wonderful, and beautiful, and the music is fabulous is each of them. My husband actually likes the new one better!

Once you go on Avatar Flight of Passage at Pandora, you will be like “Soarin’ what? who?” LOL

    There is that!

don’t get me wrong, I didn’t hate our new version-I just prefer the Over CA version.
Also, we were on the waay left so everything was SUPER curved because of the screen. I’m sure if I sat in the middle, my opinion might be a bit better.

I do love both but I’m not really good with heights and I must tell you the Paris scene always makes me feel really uncomfortable! Other than that I miss the smells and the soundtrack of Over California! But still, Soarin is an awesome ride! :ears:

Soarin over CA was great for me. Many of the places I have lived or worked in.

    Tidbit of trivia

The person hitting the golf ball in Palm Springs is Michael Eisner and, if youre quick, you can see a hidden mickey on the ball as it flies by.

I knew about the hidden mickey part but I didn’t know that was ME! Whoa! :surprised:

I was born in California. That said I very much enjoyed seeing California when I visited WDW. As much as I enjoyed it, my eye prefers the entire world than one state. TBH, I couldn’t tell what was CGI and what wasn’t :|

I really enjoyed it! ***Spoiler alert*** When it opens up and the real Matterhorn appears, it’s just awesome. All the CGI animals don’t bother me much because they do look authentic. And I love all the new smells – especially from Africa. The only thing i don’t like is the “bending” when you’re off to the sides. That just makes it all really weird. Not a fan of that.

I do miss the original, as I’m a huge Yosemite fan. But this new one is good.

@Gator yes! I was on the far far left and omg it was bad. I’m sure if I sit in the middle, I’ll enjoy it more but yeah, being all the way to the side really affects your viewing ability.
