RIDisneyPinGuy182 XPI don’t like Wishes or IllumiNations…not a real fan of fireworks in general
I can take Illuminations much better than Wishes. I think fireworks are overrated myself. My favorite closing show is Fantasmic! But you know what I hate? That middle part of Illuminations with the globe…it goes on and on forever! It’s just really boring.
So here is an unpopular opinion…
I do not like Fantasmic!
It is such a hassle getting in and out, it seems like the show never starts on time, and I feel like I’m crammed in there like a can of sardines.
April 29, 2017 at 11:16 am #24700@RIDisneyPinGuy I totally get it. I have only done it ONCE and of course the water effects in front of us were malfunctioning. it was hot, crowded, the seats are uncomfortable and we waited forever for it to start. That was years ago – before kids – so we got the Fantasmic dinner package this round and are going to give it another go.
I do not care for Illuminations. When I was a teenager I got ash in my eye during the show. And quite frankly I can’t see all the marvelous things that are supposed to be on the globe…I feel like you would need binoculars to really see it. It does nothing for me so we usually go on Spaceship Earth one last time instead.

nooneshome20 XPPut me in the same camp of those that don’t care that much for Illuminations. If they had some form of stadium seating I would do it more often. Also, pineapple dole whip floats are way over-rated. Pure sugar flavored soft serve… And I can’t wait to see the our new prez in the HoP.

Agreed about Dole Whips. I mean, I don’t HATE them but I wouldn’t stand in line for them for an ungodly amount of time.

kimmykay112238 XPTotally agree about illuminations. I like the music but I can’t stand that stupid globe with the videos on it. It’s so hard to see and frankly boring!
Here is a totally unpopular opinion but I could totally do without meeting characters – especially the ones in the full costumes. I’ve always had a weird thing about people in costumes when I can’t see your face, they just creep me out! Face characters are cool but I try to stay away from others if I can!
May 10, 2017 at 8:20 am #26533@ridisneypinguy @jamiedawn27 I have to say, while I do enjoy the firework shows I don’t see them every time just because I don’t have the energy at that time of day to fight the crowds leaving the parks I think Fantasmic is a great show, but you are right, that is probably the worst to get out of. Having said all that, we got FP for Illuminations last time and that helped a ton, as did our Fantasmic Dining Package. We got fantastic seats and we were out of there in no time!
On the topic of I only like the vanilla Dole whip floats which are no more at the Magic Kingdom :'(

Funny you should say that, a couple of my friends have the same fear about people in costume
May 10, 2017 at 8:27 am #26537Probably the only firework show I see every trip to WDW is IllumiNations and that is mostly because there are many good viewing areas and a few that don’t get too cramped or crowded. I enjoy leaving the World Showcase afterward in a very slow fashion. We usually see the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, but sometimes we go to BLT’s lounge to see them rather than wait in the park. Fantasmic! for us is the most skipped venue, but we see it about every other trip. Our next trip we have the Fantasmic! Dining Package, so it’s definitely on our list this trip. Lately I did enjoy the Star Wars fireworks at DHS too! :bsaber: :rsaber:

my daughter is very uncomfortable with the people in costume, she just started feeling this way, she said if she cannot see faces she does not know who is behind there, it was funny though, at dinner at chef mickey’s she wanted to take the pictures when the characters came by and goofy made her get up and take a picture with him, it was pretty funny !

kimmykay112238 XP@starbee – I feel the same way! I work at a college and whenever a student is wearing the college mascot outfit I make them tell me who they are which makes me feel better for some reason!
Now that I have a child, I do have to say that the characters were a little more fun, but he pretty much hated all of them except Chip and Dale so maybe he will be in the same boat!
May 13, 2017 at 4:56 pm #27076So here’s my latest unpopular opinion that I’m sure will be followed by the throwing of rotten vegetables…
I was never a fan of Wishes and I’m glad it’s been replaced by Happily Ever After. I completely understand why people love Wishes, I know for a lot of people it has sentimental meaning like seeing it on their wedding night, or getting proposed to during Wishes, etc. – I too love attractions for sentimental reasons. But for me, Wishes had no sentimental meaning. I thought it was an okay show, not bad or anything, it was just always my least favorite. I saw it maybe twice and that was enough. I didn’t like it because it just seemed like a few fireworks with colors changing on the castle. Nothing special in my opinion.
Happily Ever After blows Wishes out of the water for me! More fireworks with great effects like the projection showing Mulan setting off a firecracker that corresponds with a firework – amazing! The fireworks were more in time with the music which in itself is a great effect, the castle projections were spectacular and I think there’s a great variety of movies portrayed in the projection with another good variety of soundtrack accompaniment. I don’t always think a change at Disney is warranted, or well done, but in this case I think the change in Magic Kingdom fireworks show is both

I loved Wishes for the meaning to my wife and I, but I get it. It had a good run. A long run by Disney standards. I do not disagree it was time, and honestly I was shocked there hasn’t been a change sooner. I will miss it, but I understand the need for it to retire. I hope HEA is at least as good, and that they do not rely to heavily on the projections so it may be enjoyed throughout the park (read: from the TTA ). We shall see

I agree about character meet and greets. When I was a kid, the characters walked around by themselves freely and kids just ran up to them and hugged them. I think the whole idea of autographs has to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of! It just creates more lines. Just let the kids have a little interaction and a picture and go on their merry way. At the very least they should all have a stamp. I HATE the autograph thing! It just makes the character look completely awkward while they’re trying to see what they’re doing. Funny thing is, I don’t remember the characters ever being bombarded by people and kids back in the 70’s. You just ran up, got a hug and ran off…the character was usually in motion and not stopped for any great length of time. Aaah the good old days.

OMG I’m glad I’m not the only one! My friend just loves Wishes to death and I can’t understand it. I was always shocked that out of all of the impressive shows, it seemed to be the least. I’m with you on the fact that it seemed very lack luster for it to be running at MK all these years. I can’t wait to see the new show!
June 28, 2017 at 11:25 am #35899Not a fan of Olaf from Frozen. There I said it. other than keeping Anna warm while in the palace he has no other purpose but to be some unneeded comic relief
