@kcboston i’m pretty sure you’re right, there’s never been a LA character meet and greet. (aside from marvel movies.)
July 8, 2019 at 11:36 am #113092@kcboston I do believe you’re right. All meet and greets are still the original animated versions. And the props really aren’t too intrusive. Most of them end up at Walt Disney Presents to coincide with the previews.
Yeah RoL was a mess in production. My point was more that it was a temporary thing, there’s not too much to actually worry about with this new film. Either way, it was a tie-in for when the film came out.July 8, 2019 at 11:50 am #113093also, i’m not trying to fight, i’m genuinely curious, what’s the big deal with having ariel be played by a person of color? it’s not like ariel was based on a real person, and she’s a mermaid after all. why can’t black women be mermaids?
Leaving out the parade issue right now……meet and greet. Let’s say Cinderella hadn’t been live action remade. They cast a black person as Cinderella. How do you explain the white Cinderella in a meet and greet to a four or five year old? Cinderella isn’t a real person, but when they do a live action remake and/or they have a meet and greet of a face character, they are and become real people. Black people CAN be mermaids. They can have all the black mermaids they want in the movie. Ariel is this and only this . She has become a real person based on the move and this in her grotto. I hope that explains my position.
July 8, 2019 at 11:59 am #113094@nascfan i understand your position i guess since i don’t have kids i never really thought about that.
it’s just that sooo many people have been making such disgusting and racist comments about Halle, and that makes me sad (i’m not talking about anyone here, just on the internet in general.)

That I will NEVER agree with and it makes me very angry and disgusted that there are people like that! This is one reason I love our little corner of the world. If anyone here says anything like that or puts her down in that way I will shut it down in a heartbeat.

July 8, 2019 at 12:18 pm #113097It’s not Ariel’s fault she looks like this That’s the way she was drawn and that’s the way people will always see her. No matter how wonderful this actress/singer is…she doesn’t look the part. I just wish people would stick to that argument instead of getting all hateful about it. I see parades and meet and greets being problematic in the future…not to mention merchandise! I will be surprised if the movie does well in the theaters or on video.

I know you don’t mean here because if ever we saw something like that (not that I think we would) the moderator team would shut that down immediately there’s no need to get personal and be hateful or racist. I know it’s been out there since the casting announcement but I don’t understand why and that’s super embarrassing for those of us who don’t think like that. No matter how they cast Ariel, I wouldn’t see this movie. I’m so over the “live action” remakes it would take a lot to get me to go. However, I personally am sad about the casting because I think it’s political correctness gone too far. Like others said, it’s the political move to make these days in attempt to be all-inclusive. If they remade The Princess and the Frog and cast a white actress as Tiana, people would lose their ever loving minds. But, in reverse, that’s okay and no one can dislike that choice because if they do, they’re labelled a racist.
People may think this is dumb, but let me bare my soul for a second – hopefully I don’t regret this but I can always remove this comment later if people are inappropriate. I was bullied all through middle and high school. Why? Because of my hair color. People called me the most vulgar things I can’t post here. Ariel was my inspiration. She looked like me and she was a PRINCESS. I thought that was amazing. Growing up I never looked like anyone I saw on TV or in movies. I didn’t even meet another redhead until high school. Ariel made me feel like I wasn’t this weird creature the kids in the school yard made me out to be. But now, in the live action remake, they’re taking someone who looked like me and gave me inspiration and hope all through my childhood and making her look completely different. It almost undoes everything it built previously. On top of that, expressing my thoughts and feelings on the matter is completely not allowed, so the added hypocrisy just makes the whole thing worse. So to summarize, my feelings on this are all personal and specific to me, but hopefully that helps you understand why I for one feel the way I do about this casting.

July 8, 2019 at 12:27 pm #113101The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite Disney movies and Ariel is my favorite princess. But I will not be seeing this movie.
I couldn’t be more with you! Not going to pay to go see it, not going to see it when it comes to video, not going to see it for free if family or friends has it. Nope, hard pass for me!
And what are they going to do with the meet and greet? And parade? If they change my Ariel, yes I said MY Ariel , Oooooo, ((words I can’t say on D-Cot))! And if they don’t change them, how will they explain THAT one to the kids?! They probably won’t bother explaining it, seems to be their way now to just hope the public doesn’t notice the things they are doing or not doing. Sorry, got on my soapbox.Completely agree !!
July 8, 2019 at 1:16 pm #113104@starbee I just want to give you a hug right now.
And the Tiana example is a perfect description and example of how main characters just shouldn’t be completely and 100% changed like that.July 8, 2019 at 1:28 pm #113105@nascfan It’s okay! But thanks I wasn’t trying to make this about me, just illustrating that this can be about more than what it seems on the surface.
July 8, 2019 at 1:36 pm #113107i just need to say right now, i am so grateful everyone on here is so respectful of one another!! go anywhere else on the internet and you’ll be called some kind of name, whether you’re for or against halle bailey. this is why i love this community!
also, i wonder who they’ll cast as prince eric… i’m kind of hoping it’s someone who isn’t very famous – that’s one of the reasons i didn’t like emma watson as belle. all i could see was hermione.

bexruns374 XPThe one (AND ONLY) reason I don’t care about this is that I’m tired of remakes. The end.
July 8, 2019 at 1:44 pm #113109It’s going to be really interesting to see how the cast unfolds. Terry Crews has interest in Triton, Todrick Hall has interest in Sebastian, but I think the most important (and perfect fit) suggestion is Gordan Ramsey as Chef Louie.
