    @laprana loved the video!

    My sister @msmurphy and i were both in marching band in high school and at UMASS Amherst as well. I was never in corps but a bunch of people in our UMASS band were. Our other sister is a band director in Texas.

    @chris_white2323 it was so fun!! It was a cold day, and it rained allllll morning from the time we had to get in place at 3:00 am until right before we got to the end of the parade. We were marching in ponchos to cover our uniforms and had to take the plumes off of our hats and shove them up our sleeves to keep them dry. Then about 5 minutes before we got to the performance site at the end, we all scrambled to take our ponchos off and put our plumes back on so we could bring Santa in! I wish showed a little bit of us marching during our drum cadence between songs. The cadence was Santana’s Oye Como Va and we had a little dance routine the whole band did to it LOL

    @nancyg
    Thanks!! And it’s so awesome to know another D-Cot pal whose also a fellow band geek! :belle: :heart: What did you play?

    @nancyg and @msmurphy that’s awesome! marching band was the coolest no doubt about it.

    @laprana
    those are always great stories – I didn’t mind rain but I hated the cold – can’t feel your hands but most people can’t tell the difference anyway. Always special precautions to take with uniforms. When I marched PR our uniforms were white so we had to really watch where we sat, on and on. nothing like polishing shoes every day.

    I loved playing cadences, either during parades or when we played the band or corps on/off the field. we had a similar cadence to Oy Como Va and the whole band had a shuffle of sorts while we played. always a good time.

    @nascfan thanks!! I have band stories for days, lol! Best time of my life, for sure!

    @chris_white2323
    Ohhh, the struggle is real with the white uniforms! LOL My HS band had white competition pants and were given demerits if we got so much as a smudge on them before a performance, lol! And I totally agree with you on the cold. As a clarinet player, I always had to cut holes in the tips of my gloves in order to be able to play, so I always dreaded it when the temps dropped. It couldn’t have been easy to hold those drumsticks in the cold, either!

    Man, it has been great talking about our band days with you! Bringing back so many great memories! :)

    @laprana good! When we meet you can share some with me!

    @nascan thanks! and thanks again to @PA_Timekeeper for digging that up. probably a good thing youtube and social media wasn’t around when I was younger. lots of behind the scenes stuff in band and drum corps, trust me.

    trading band stories is always great. not to keep retreading it but it’s great to find people who can relate to the band stories/humor. not too many people get it.
