Anyone else read about the potential Star Trek Land coming to Universal Studio’s? Also rumored is a Nintendo land and other new rides and attractions? Would anyone consider forgoing Disney to check out Universal for a trip? And what if any effect do you think this will have on Disney. I personally have not been there since the soft opening of IOA over 20 years ago.

I’ve heard of the Nintendo Land on one of the Youtube channels that i watch. I havn’t heard of a Star Trek Land?!?! Honestly, neither of those would lure me away from a WDW vacation :) LOL

I haven’t heard about that. I’m a big Trekkie so that would be awesome if it were true!

In terms of Nintendoland, that is no longer a rumor. Universal are already airing commercials to advertise it. It will replace the former Barney stage show in Woody Woodpecker’s Kid Zone over at Universal Studios. I usually visit UO when I’m in Orlando for a Disney trip. We have been Annual Passholders for UO numerous times. I am addicted to Halloween Horror Nights and I need some bigger thrills every now and again ;) I did once vacation exclusively at Universal in 2016 after an awful Disney trip the prior year in 2015. I needed a break from Disney (sacrilege, I know) and we had a fantastic visit to Universal Orlando and a much needed break from Disney. Would I do that again? Maybe so. We did have a much better time when we returned to Disney in 2017.

    Star Trek land sounds awsome!

When Harry Potter opened my bff and I made a weekend trip down just for that. That was 2009. Last time I’ve been to universal. If i didn’t have little kids I’d go to Universal at least one day when in Orlando. But it’s not really for the littles as much as the preteens & up.

I’m not sir about Nintendo land? I’ve never been a gamer;not even Mario back in the day. I can probably count on one hand how many times I have a played a real video game.

My thoughts are that Disney and Universal are two totally different appeals. I don’t know that Universal could really cause crimp in Disneys attendance. I think if it was going to happen, it would have happened with Harry Potter.

But hey, a little competition is always good for the customers.

I agree, I don’t think they are a like for like comparison. They have different target audiences I think. Disney is more about creating a fully immersive experience where family members of all ages can have fun together and adults can be kids again. Universal Studios is more about bringing your favorite movies to life for you to experience. Neither park will get exclusivity out of me, I go to each for different reasons. I also agree with what you said about competition being good. Absolutely! I’m glad that each has the other to compete with because I think Disney especially has rested on its laurels too much and assumed that the name alone will always draw customers. They need to remain competitive and I think the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has given Disney a run for its money and forced Disney to remain competitive

I like Universal and Disney parks. If you haven’t been, you really should find time to go. Neither of those would be a draw for me, but Universal is very good at what they do and has forced Disney to up their game. They have drawn attendance from Disney, even if just for one or two days, but that adds up for Disney. We did a Universal only trip last fall when going to FL for a wedding. Since we were there for a wedding, we weren’t staying on Disney property, thus we wouldn’t have access to any good Fast Passes at the 30 day mark. So we went to Universal instead and had a great time.
