First Solo Trip Planning Tips

Hi D-Cot!
Looks like I’ll be taking my first solo trip in April 2020. I will be in Orlando for a conference but I’ll have down time the day before and in the evenings after the conference. My hotel is going to be closer to Universal Orlando than to Disney (not that they’re far from each other) so I’m thinking about getting more use out of my Disney Annual Pass and heading to the World while I’m in Orlando.
I’ve never taken a solo trip before but I’ve always wanted to. What I should I know before I go? Any tips, tricks or advice?
I’m still trying to figure out which parks I want to go to. I will for sure have 3 evenings and depending on my flight times, I may have the afternoon and evening free on the day I arrive and possibly the morning available to go to the parks on the day I fly out.
Hmmmm…. I’ve only experienced being alone for one afternoon…. The possibilities are almost endless since you don’t have you answer to anyone. I would get to the attractions that you really like. Eat where ever you want and stay out as late as you want… It’ll be like being a kid all alone in a candy store.

ahhh i love solo trips!! i’m just warning you, after your first solo trip, you may never want to go with another person again
i don’t really know what advice i could give you, since you’ve been before so you know the drill lol. i would say don’t make fastpasses for rock n rollercoaster, test track, or everest since they have single rider lines and those are never that long. also, just do whatever you want to do!! that’s the best part!! you’re in control of every single decision! if you’re nervous about being alone, before you go do some solo things at home, like eat out by yourself or go to the movies alone. also, watch solo youtubers, like michael kay or ivy winters.
okay my biggest piece of advice is don’t let being solo stop you from doing anything. if you want to do a character buffet, do it. if you want to pose with mickey, do it. no one is watching you and no one really cares tbh

Thanks! I need to do more research into what attractions have a single rider line because aside from RnRC I haven’t really taken note. I don’t want to make FPs for attractions with a single rider line like you said.

I’ve never done that. I’m glad you said no one’s really watching or cares because I definitely would be self-conscious about being by myself. Thanks for your input!Although I’ve not had a solo trip, I have experienced a fair share of solo evenings. Use single rider lines whenever you can, enjoy the evening lights and atmosphere, take some time to just take it in. Enjoy exploring things you might not get to otherwise with family.

I remember my solo trip with much fondness! I had a blast and would enjoy another one some day! The best thing was doing what I wanted when I wanted and it’s so easy to see so many things when you’re by yourself. The only thing I didn’t do that I wish I would have done was solo Table Service dining. I ate all Quick Service while there. I had some nice conversations with cast members since I wasn’t holding anybody up. I strolled slowly through the parks and admired the details. I experienced more Disney than I have before or since.

Later I also took a solo trip to the beach (in the late winter), and wanted some good local seafood. The only places to get that were dine-in, so I bit the proverbial bullet, took a book with me, and went out to eat two times. I had a couple of good conversations with my servers, and otherwise did some reading while waiting for my food to arrive (and since it was just me, it came quicker than normal). I was thinking then, and still do…Imagine how much more fun that would’ve been at Disney where cast members would probably chat even more, and you can soak in some nice themes too!

Thank you! Even if there’s not a single rider line, keep your ears open for CMs calling out for single riders. I’ve only been on a full solo trip once, but I’m used to riding ToT and other thrill rides alone.
I know a lot of people get bent about thinking people will notice that they’re alone, blah blah blah. Everyone is so wrapped up in themselves, nobody notices, or cares.
As someone that’s alone a fair amount, I find eating at the bar to be a nicer way to go about things when I’m alone. It gives you a built in companion (the bartender), and the option to socialize with others. Also, it’s amazing how fast one person can get from point A to point B in the parks! Bob and weave through that crowd like nothing!
