My first run after Dopey was May 1, two weeks ago now :P sorry y’all I didn’t want anyone to think I quit right as I was getting started but work has been insane! lately! I wanted to start the challenge strong so against my better judgment I ran 3 miles right off the bat, having not run for almost 4 months. It went surprisingly well! I took Leia with me and we ran the neighborhood.

    Time: 33:42
    Distance: 3.00 miles
    Pace: 11:14/mile

Around mile 2 I started to feel tired and a little out of breath but I thought of Dr. Seeker “We can’t stop now, keep going, keep going!” and pushed to mile 3. It wasn’t as bad as I thought and my pace was pretty much the same as it was when I was Dopey training! :surprised:

As far as the challenge goes, I then walked 1 mile that evening with Trixie, a 2.5 mile walk on May 2 with Leia, 2.5 miles with Leia again on May 3, a 2 mile walk on May 5, before running again on May 6 (I’ll post that separately).

May 6 I ran again in the neighborhood with Leia :pluto:

    Time: 33:36
    Distance: 3.00 miles
    Pace: 11’11”

It was perfect running weather in the low 50s! I couldn’t believe my pace again for just getting back into running! Thursday last week I must have slept funny or something because my back hurt bad. I couldn’t bend over or stand up straight, I’m not sure what I did so I skipped running. Friday it felt better but still hurt so again I skipped my run. Saturday I felt fine but we worked on our flower bed all day so I didn’t run or walk. That alone made me sore and I got over 10,000 steps.

Sunday the storms rolled in and stayed with us until yesterday. I was able to catch a break in the rain on Monday May 11 and take a 2 mile walk at lunch time. I found an outdoor track I can use at work at the university across the street since the gym in our building is still closed  I hate not being able to get away from my desk at lunch and re-energize with a workout. It’s such a waste of time to sit on my butt over lunch. This morning the storms returned and are forecast to stay until Monday  I was however able to get a run in before they hit, I’ll post that next.

Keep plugging away @starbee! We don’t use Fitbit for our actual sessions, if we want to know and keep track of splits and pace we use an app called Map My Walk. I think they have a Map My Run too. It’s free so if you wanted to explore that you could. It tracks to the hundredth of a mile also. But you do whatever you can and just stay safe in and around storms!

Way to go @bexruns! That is super impressive! A nice goal too, not something like 5 or 10 miles every day. You are doing awesome rockstar!

Our races keep getting pushed back to later in the year, hopefully they will be able to be held but we will see. We did complete a Star Wars 5k this month. With Kathy’s lack of training this winter we walked it but I was still impressed with her, she almost made Disney speeds by walking! I’m trying to get her out more so we can run a little more with the summer runDisney virtuals over the next three months. Other than that the mud run I plan to do with the kids has been postponed to September and the Dart Frog Dash for our zoo has been pushed to August. Hoping and praying the Wine & Dine for November do not get cancelled! I want, no, I NEED to do that 10 with Heather and Robyn! Still doing my lunchtime sessions every single day and as much as possible with Kathy in the evenings with the weather finally turning to the better.

I was super lucky to have missed the storms this morning. They were supposed to hit around 4am/5am but I got up at 5am anyway because our weather is so unreliable. It wasn’t raining or storming and the forecast said 40% chance starting at 7am, so Leia and I went out for another 3 miles. It was already 70 and 88% humidity as the storms were approaching. Around mile 1.5 we saw lighting so I thought if I have to cut it short, whatever, I’ve done something, but thankfully we completed 3 miles right as it started to sprinkle lightly  About 15 minutes later (when we were home) the storm started.

    Time: 33:38
    Distance: 3.00 miles
    Pace: 11’12”

I got negative splits with my last mile pacing at 10:31 because I didn’t want to get caught in the storm! :) I’m hoping I’ll find a break in the rain over the weekend to get out and walk. Next week is looking a lot better for me to continue running.

As of today my current progress on the May Challenge is 19.5 miles. Halfway to the goal, halfway through the month – not bad!

@nascfan Thanks! I know a lot of people use Map My Run but I will keep using Strava for now just because we have to use that for this challenge. If Fitbit tracks my miles again I will switch back to that, otherwise I think Strava’s fine. It’s just not what I’m used to and it can take up to an hour for your activity to sync and be viewed. Weird. I love the map of my WDW marathon Fitbit gave me! I’ll text it to you. Are you back at the office or do you walk your neighborhood at lunch time? When do y’all plan on doing your runDisney virtual May 5k?

@starbee that makes sense, especially for the challenge. Oh yes, I’d love to see it!
I’m both, they want us home still but sometimes I just have to be in the office…..productivity and that’s where all my files are. But I do walk the neighborhood when I’m home, it’s so nice!
We are hoping to coordinate with Robyn depending on how the weather plays out. It will be on the weekends though for sure. I’d like to get them in each month earlier rather than later. So that’s a long way of saying, not sure yet, but on the weekends with hopefully good weather! LOL We can let you know beforehand if you’d like to join us!

@nascfan Yes please! That would be great! I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to with drill etc but I’ll try :) I’m not signed up for the races but I’ll still run ’em if I can, especially for May

Well, ask and ye shall receive @MissingWDW LOL

Not sure how much I’ve posted on here, but I kind of fell off running in the fall. Life just got too busy, I had ears orders coming out the ears, and other trips and things made it so difficult to keep up. In December, I started running again because I was taking a break from the ears business and had some more time to focus on myself

I’m going to try posting this in smaller chunks, my post doesn’t seem to want to go through

Well, it was going pretty good, but in early/mid January my body was all BAHAHAHAHAHA OH NO YOU DON’T and I started having really bad hip pain, to the point where it hurt to sit and walk. So, I went to a chiropractor for some treatment and physical therapy exercises to help get better. He also does acupuncture, that was interesting

I was starting to feel better, and when I got sent home from work in March, I thought it was a perfect opportunity to ease back into running. It started off pretty well, and for the first couple of weeks it was getting used to running again, getting my breath back, all the expected stuff for starting over. Well, once I got my breath back, it became pretty obvious that not being able to do much physical activity for 2+ months had not done my legs any favors. My leg muscles were all

    oohweeeee, not a great feeling

So, again, I decided to take a step back from running, but this time I started a strength training program to help get my body stronger. I’ve been doing that for about a month, and although there’s no real visible results, I do feel a lot stronger than when I started.
