bexruns374 XPAnyone running a Thanksgiving 5K?
November 25, 2019 at 1:47 pm #121048On Saturday, Christy and I completed a 7.0 mile run along the C & D Canal. It wasn’t too cold (sweatshirt and sweatpants weather, but no gloves or hat). No brutal winds either. As we ran we saw some unique looking canal front houses. Some of them looked like the residents had a vacation home for an actual home with sundecks and water view rooms with big windows. Very cool looking places. On the run, my knee held up well. I taped it just in case though. We finished in 1:28:38 for a pace of 12’39″/mile. Full stats: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4283167697
22 training activities with:
13 paced workouts,
6 distance runs,
and 3 walks before the Dopey Challenge!November 25, 2019 at 2:03 pm #121050@rocketear99 Way to go! Great pace! I ended up skipping most of my runs last week. Thursday’s was cancelled due to our firm’s Thanksgiving dinner, tried to move it to Friday but that got cancelled due to rain/storms, and Saturday and Sunday I had absolutely no time to run we were so busy with stuff hoping to get more in this week with the extra days off
November 25, 2019 at 4:11 pm #121054@starbee Thank you!!! And I understand all the skipping you’ve had to do. Fitting in so much training (especially long distances) into the schedule is SO HARD to do! And there’s certain things on the calendar that just can’t be passed up for a run Sorry you’ve had to miss out on training and hope this week works out a lot better and the weather cooperates! We’re supposed to do 20 miles this weekend The weather looks sketchy around here for Saturday. I hope it doesn’t rain on our parade or it’ll be a MAJOR training setback We already know it’s going to be a little chilly and I don’t mind running through the occasional spritz of rain, but if it pours on us, well…cold and wet are a recipe for disaster.

@bexruns it depends on how many k’s there are from the couch to the table and back again.
November 25, 2019 at 4:33 pm #121056@rocketear99 great job Saturday! Good pace and no knee problems, fantastic!
@starbee I’m so sorry this weekend didn’t work out for you. I hope this week is much better for you!
November 25, 2019 at 4:50 pm #121057@rocketear99 It really is. I would have needed about 4 hours for my 17 miler (plus warm up, cool down, travel time, shower time) which is basically half the day. There was just no way. I didn’t even have time Sunday for a 3 miler. Good luck on your 20, and with the weather. That is FAR! Mine is a couple weeks out if all goes to plan. Yeah I’m with you, a little rain is one thing, but a lot of rain and constant rain, especially in the cold is terrible. They say that’s not what gets you sick, but it sure makes me feel sick!

Oh my gosh that’s hysterical
November 25, 2019 at 4:51 pm #121059@nascfan Thanks. I figured that’s how it would go once I remembered all of the things going on this weekend that I had previously forgotten about
November 25, 2019 at 6:02 pm #121061Anyone running a Thanksgiving 5K?
Yes, I am doing the Drumstick Dash here in Indianapolis on Thanksgiving morning and then I signed up me and the kids to do a Black Friday 5k too
November 26, 2019 at 7:50 am #121068Ugh, the weather for the weekend just got exponentially worse. 40-50% chance of rain ALL weekend, and some of it will be Freezing rain Beginning to wonder if we’ll get to 20 miles before Dopey.
November 26, 2019 at 7:54 am #121069@rocketear99 oh no! I’m so sorry! That’s not just unpleasant, freezing rain is dangerous! Slippage, falls, not good!
November 26, 2019 at 7:59 am #121070@nascfan Exactly! I’d sooner run in the snow, but not that, and even rain and cold weather don’t mix. You can end up getting hypothermia (especially over 20 miles).
November 26, 2019 at 8:03 am #121071Darn straight! That is not a good mix!

AnonymousXPI do a 5K run/walk 5-7x a week. If it’s more of a walk, it’s around a 15’45” pace, if it’s more of a run it’s around a 11′ pace. I do run/walks so that I *can* go out 5-7x a week. I’ve decided to sacrifice my vanity and do those vs. just runs so that I can get out more often for “longer” periods. If I just did runs, I would only manage 2-3x and my risk of injury would go up. My job is is sitting in a chair working on a computer so I try and do everything I can to be active – especially my almost daily run/walks where the goal is to be out around an hour. When there is either ice or snow (and I agree running in snow is the better of the two), I have “all-terrain” running shoes and those excursions are almost exclusively walks to void tearing up a knee or falling and injuring something. I try and do this regiment all year round.
