We did 5.0 mile today and finished in 0:59:12 for an average pace of 11’50″/mile :) Our goal is to finish our upcoming 1/2 Marathon on Sep 28th with under 12’00″/mile pace for POT for Dopey :dopey: So we were very happy with our pace today :)

@rocketear99 That’s awesome! I don’t know what it is about going over 6 miles but that’s when my pace starts to slow down. I’m sure you’ll get the pace you need for POT, especially with the cooler September weather!

Again I’m way behind in posting my runs but I’ve still been running! Let’s see…

    Wednesday, September 4
Another hot, humid and sticky run around the neighborhood with Leia. I’m having to run with a headlamp now because it’s dark and I had to dodge two huge spiders sitting Haunted Mansion style in a huge web hanging from tree limbs I had to run under. Barf.

    Time: 46:56
    Distance: 4.00 miles
    Pace: 11’43”

    Friday, September 6
I ran in the neighborhood again and didn’t meet huge spiders this time – yay! It was once again hot and humid and Leia was with me too.

    Time: 46:02
    Distance: 4.00 miles
    Pace: 11’29”

    Saturday, September 7
I tried running 1.5 miles at a faster pace in order to prep for my looming PT test. Well I probably should have paid better attention to the weather. It was 97% humidity and already in the 80s when I got out there. After 0.75 miles I felt sick and I could hear my heartbeat so I stopped. Need to prep better next time. But my pace was pretty killer for that 3/4 mile! Oh and now I have a nasty mosquito bite too

I needed to get back into my longer runs after having 6 weekends taken from me due to military obligations. It had been 2 months therefore since my last run over 4 miles and that run was 15 miles. I didn’t really know where to start to get back into it but decided on 10. I went out to the trail a little later than I would have liked after sleeping in for 30 minutes :P still it’s pretty shady over there for a while and the temperature was in the mid-70s with a nice breeze.

The run went well but at mile 6 I didn’t think I was going to make it to 10 miles. I just got super thirsty all of a sudden even though I drank 24 oz of Tailwind before I left and had more with me. I didn’t want to drink too much because then I get side stitches and feel sick and that for sure would make me quit. But I pushed through, mind over matter, and before I knew it I had run 10 miles! I felt fine and wasn’t struggling so I decided I’d do one more for 11. Well that came around super quick so I decided I’d go for two more miles to round it out at 13. I slowed down a lot during those last 2 miles because it was really heating up, but I made it and I still wouldn’t say I struggled!

    Time: 2:40:43
    Distance: 13.00 miles
    Pace: 12’22”

I was super pleased with myself because after a long and unintended break, I didn’t know how this would go, but I am confident now because I haven’t regressed like I feared I had and I’m able to jump right back in to training! I am of course, a few weeks behind, but I’ve made peace with it :) also, I wasn’t paying any attention to my time but I think it’s pretty awesome especially considering the break in training!

Oh my gosh @starbee that is fantastic! You’re regular runs are at a great pace and did you see that 13 miler?! You did so awesome! Your pace is fantastic! You have plenty of room, I’m so happy with that after the unintended break! You are going to be just fine and so awesome!

@starbee Catching up…viewing the forums and posting while on the work computer doesn’t go very well for some reason (lots of needing to refresh the pages before they work) :P Stupid gov’t network! Stupid gov’t PCs! Stupid Judy!

    Anyway,

Aside from that .75 that was supposed to be a 1.5, you seem to be doing really well! That 13 miles was on point! Plenty of time left until :dopey: too, so keep at it and you should be fine :)

We reached a new milestone today! 15.0 miles AND we improved our pace from the 13.1 we did 2 weeks ago!!! :) To quote Uncle Walt, “I think I’m so happy, I’ll bust!” :yensid:

It was a *very* humid day, but it was cool out. Temp started at 68* and when we finished it was around 75*. It also rained on us a couple of times, but not enough to compete with the sweat we were pouring out on our own :P On our 13.1 two weeks ago we started at the beginning of a rail trail in Maryland, just north of Baltimore and headed north, finishing in a town called Parkton. Today we picked up right where we left off in Parkton, continued north and ended north of Glen Rock, PA…Yup, 2 states in one long run!

We finished in 3:12:45 with a pace of 12’51″/mile, setting a new record for fastest Half Marathon along the way! We’re still not as fast as we want to be for POT, but we’re optimistic! Full stats at the link:

Howdy, y’all! I haven’t been posting about it at all but I am still running. My “training plan”, for the past few months has been made up of 3 runs a week including two 30-minute runs on weekdays and, on the weekend, one run covering a distance of 5k. I’ve been doing 30/30 intervals for a while and have not yet adjusted to more running due to the heat around here. I’ve been doing my weekday runs in the dark at 5:30am because the heat is just too much in the evenings; trying to get it in before I get ready for work is the reason for the 30-minute time limit. I’m looking forward to moving back to evenings in the next month or so in order to stretch to 40-45 minutes or just whatever time I’m able to spend.

I did run a 5k race this past Saturday. It was the TINIEST race I have ever seen. Seriously! I’m talking 25-30 people. It was so weird! But, that also means it was super easy to place in age groups!

My sister decided to sign up and run with me. She hadn’t trained at all and just signed up on a whim – very similar to how I got started running/racing again back in March of this year. I really wanted to run my own race to see if I could improve my time but, I ended up just sticking with her. I did push her harder than she would have pushed herself so, we both finished just a few seconds apart at 46:23 and 46:30. That is my slowest time this year (even slower than my first race back in March) but, WE BOTH FINISHED IN THE MEDALS!!! :tigger: :tigger: :tigger: We got 2nd and 3rd place, women 40-49! (And I’ll just tell you it is just SO like my sister to place in her first 5k without any training at all. :smirk: :P LOL )

Anyway, it was a fun time to spend with her and I’m looking forward to running this one again next year. If the field remains this small, maybe I can get my first-ever first-place finish!

    Happy running, y’all!

@rocketear99 I know how that goes with the government computer! :P and even on my civilian work computer I have issues with the site and can’t get the page to load to even log on some days :( Thanks! :) Yeah I’m not worried about it. Just gotta keep trucking along! I am continuing to work on my 1.5 mile. I’m not used to running at a 9’15” pace anymore now that I’ve been maintaining an average of a 12’00” pace for these longer Dopey training runs. Way to go on the 15 miler! How fun to run through 2 states! Sometimes I appreciate the rain when I’m running ;) that may not be the pace you want for POT but it’s still a great pace! I’m confident you’ll get a fantastic time when you qualify :)

Good job @connie96! That medal looks great on you! You better have beaten her, no way she’s going to take second over you! ;) Keep up the good work, you’re doing awesome!

Thanks, @nascfan, yes, that’s me with the silver. Cindy said she was going to walk around the last little turn and then finish so I just went ahead and finished.

I’ve got another race coming up on 10/6 on a course I haven’t run before so, we’ll see how it goes…

@connie96 Awesome! I hear ya! It’s still in the upper 90s here so I’m running the same time you are before work. I can only get a max of 4 miles in and sometimes that’s pushing it. I have to get up equally early on the weekends if I want to get a longer run in. When it cools off I’ll be running in the dark still but at least I’ll have the option of running in the evenings!
