Yesterday I went for a paced workout. I took it easy on myself for this one mainly because I got a full week of leading Games at VBS this year and that can be physically demanding. In 30 minutes, I went 2.39 miles for an avg pace of 12’32″/mile.
I may or may not get more runs in over the next two weeks because of VBS and then vacation next week
June 18, 2018 at 3:31 pm #80257Great job @rocketear99! Smart to not push it too much, you want to be ready and able to do what you need for VBS and then vacation!

10dedfish177 XPMorning all. Went for a run this morning but it felt more like a swim. Temps were 77 and humidity was 90%. 3 miles in at a 10:15 pace. Then went to the gym for 40 min for back and biceps. Eventually had to suck it up and come to work.
June 19, 2018 at 8:44 am #80306That sounds like what we’ve had the past few days @10dedfish. When I went out Sunday morning within 90 seconds I was drenched. Before I was done I couldn’t see for all the sweat in my eyes. Great job!
June 20, 2018 at 9:50 am #80362@10dedfish I feel you on the humidity, but you still did great!
@rocketear99 Great distance and pace! How awesome that you’re helping with VBS! I’m too stingy with my 10 days vacation to do anything like that but I’d like to. Our church runs a free summer camp every year for foster kids and I wish I could be a camp counselor.June 20, 2018 at 10:00 am #80363@nascfan Catching up here, I’m sorry about Kathy’s toe, how annoying that all this time after it’s decided to do that! You probably know that I had to have my toenail removed in 2013 and while mine was a little different because it was removed vs. came off of its own accord, I will say that they are fussy. It will definitely grow back, but it takes a long time, and without the nail the toe can be very sensitive. I would definitely suggest not pushing it because an injury while the nail is growing back can cause it to grow back incorrectly. I rushed my healing process, wore inappropriate footwear before I was fully healed, and therefore when my nail started to grow back, it grew into my skin and had to be removed a second time. Don’t do what I did don’t rush it, make sure the shoes Kathy wears are wide and comfortable, and don’t wear shoes when possible to help promote healing. That’s my advice
June 20, 2018 at 10:17 am #80364So I’m behind again on posting my running progress this week.
Monday
I went to the track to run 0.75 miles at a faster pace, aiming to complete that distance in 7 minutes or less. The last lap was tough but I finished in 6:33 which I was super impressed with! Now I just need to keep working on building my distance at that same quicker pace.Tuesday
First endurance run of the week. It was 77* and I took Leia with me for some exercise. We didn’t stop for potty breaks and she did great at leaving the rabbits we saw alone, but the humidity was high and I had to take two very short walk breaks on the last mile because I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I forgot to take my allergy medicine beforehand so I’m sure that didn’t help. Each walk break was less than 30 seconds, and I still finished in a good time, but like I said, I’m trying really hard not to do that.Total Time: 32:48
Total Distance: 3.00
Pace: 10’54”Wednesday
Today the aim was to run 0.75 miles at the track again in 7:00 or less. It was 74* but 92% humidity (I didn’t know that before I ran) and again I was struggling to breathe after a half mile so I stopped. I completed those two laps in a great time, 4 minutes something (Fitbit didn’t save the run it was so short) but I really need to be running 0.75 miles so that I can keep working on gradually introducing a lap until I’m running 1.5 miles in 14:00. I may not have much time now until BMT.The plan for tomorrow is a second endurance run, hopefully without walking.
June 20, 2018 at 10:38 am #80368@starbee thank you! I will definitely take your advice. She will be wearing open toes as much as possible throughout the summer and we won’t push anything with her. We’ll figure out how to be ok for the Star Wars race in April. If our time is longer, so be it.
You did great! The humidity has to be causing your breathing issues, it’s so hard to do anything in the humidity, especially running. Awesome job, you are going to be top of your class!
June 20, 2018 at 10:52 am #80375@nascfan That’s the good news, it’s summer so flip flops will be perfect! I think you will still have plenty of time for Star Wars training. Just make sure she has good fitted running shoes when she starts up again thank you! The humidity definitely affects me in a bad way, I wish I could handle it better
June 20, 2018 at 1:47 pm #80410@10dedfish Nice work yesterday, despite the humidity. We’ve been swimming in it here as well
June 20, 2018 at 1:53 pm #80411June 20, 2018 at 1:55 pm #80412@starbee Amazing pace on Monday and Tuesday! Really fantastic! I’d say not to sweat Wednesday’s run, but you probably did Humidity is terrible stuff.
June 20, 2018 at 2:06 pm #80414Yesterday I went for a paced workout and just leisurely jogged the run portions…or so I thought. Even with a 97* heat index (70% humidity), I went 2.53 miles in 30 minutes for 11’51″/mile pace That’s a personal best for paced trail workouts
Afterward I still had energy left for leading the VBS recreation team. I’m a little sore today, but nothing out of the ordinary. I may try for 2 miles tomorrow if I have the time. We’ll see!
@starbee Our VBS runs 6:30-9:00pm Monday-Friday with a closing program on Sunday morning/afternoon which we miss since we go on vacation Saturday. I’m thankful they provide meals for the volunteers at 5:00 so I just work standard 8-hour days and have plenty of time for VBS. I usually work 9-hour days to build comp time, but I make an exception for this week. It’s fun, but I’m glad it’s only one week of the year That’s cool your church does a full summer camp!June 20, 2018 at 2:26 pm #80418Great job @rocketear99! You were definitely swimming on that workout, oy! That makes what you did even more impressive, which is impressive enough!
June 23, 2018 at 10:01 am #80686It was painful and wasn’t pretty. But I got a run in!! Got up at 5:15am and was running by 6:20am. Needed to beat the heat. It was around 72* when I started. Pollen was high. I felt like I had never ran a day in my life!???? Legs and knees were really tight. Lungs were confused!???? It’s been about a month since my last run and that was my only run since our Dark Side half in April. I need to get back into my running and workout routine! I wore my Dope Challenge tank top as my motivator to run today!
