Sorry I’ve been MIA! Life has been stressful and so busy lately. But we are surviving it all. Our workouts have pretty much been non-existent. We are getting in some basic walks during the week with the dog, and walking at the mall, but that’s pretty much it. Our state is literally on fire right now. We have had smoke in the air for over 2 weeks now. Just when they start to get a handle on one forest fire, another one starts up. The closest one is around 80 miles away. Our largest ones are over 40,000 acres. Our air quality is bad and some days you even smell the smoke. Any time I’ve tried to be outside for more than 10-15 minutes, my eyes get itchy and watery, my sinuses hurt and my lungs start burning. It’s frustrating because it’s really worn us down and we can’t even seem to muster up the energy for our indoor workouts. I feel like I spend more time blowing my nose and hocking crap out than I do working out! I really really hope that we can start working out within the next week. This is frustrating to say the least. So many people in town are dealing with sinus and breathing issues. This has been a brutal start to summer and fire season for us. Praying for rain! We have a chance of Hurricane Bud coming up and giving us moisture tomorrow! We need relief ASAP! I am super sensitive to any smoke so it’s just killing me right now. And on top of it all, we’ve been in the high 90’s and upwards of 105* for two weeks too!
I did read through all of your posts and updates!! You guys are rocking your runs! Great paces and distances going on. Keep it up! I am living vicariously through all of you!!!!
June 15, 2018 at 9:50 pm #80107Oh Heather, you know I’m praying for as much relief as possible for you guys from Hurricane Bud! You just have to have that air cleared out!

10dedfish177 XPWhat? Hurricane bud? What hurricane? I should probably watch the news sometime. Hope things get better for you guys @eeyorepoohfan.
Finished my long run today, 8 miles in just under an hour and a half. Humidity was low and temps were fairly pleasant.
Had some of these homemade ohana like bread. I swapped out the pineapple n coconut for peaches n pears. Much yumm.

June 16, 2018 at 11:21 am #80134@eeyorepoohfan Thanks for checking in, I’ve missed you! Yay for some rain finally! I hope that helps, otherwise maybe you need to hide out in Florida for a while
June 16, 2018 at 11:33 am #80136Got my one and only endurance run of the week in yesterday. Not ideal, but better than nothing given the circumstances. Leia ran with me and we did pretty good. I can’t remember what the humidity was like, but the temperature was 79*. A little toasty but the sun not being up yet always helps. We ran through a couple of sprinklers again too to cool down
My time was not great, but it wasn’t as horrendous as I was expecting given that we stopped for 2 potty breaks for Leia, she got distracted by a rabbit and a cat at different times, and then we had a run in with a stray dog that I thought was going to end horribly. The leash I run with is hands free and goes around my waist, but it also has a handle close to Leia’s back so I can hold her next to me if needed. When I saw the dog, I grabbed the handle and we walked until we rounded a corner and couldn’t see him anymore. It was hard to tell the breed, but he looked like a sharpei maybe. You just never know how a dog will react and I thought if he’s at a disposition to attack, he may feel threatened if he sees me and Leia running toward him so we walked. Poor baby was three times Leia’s size but seemed scared of us as we got closer he hid behind a car as we passed and then as we were about to round the corner he slowly peeked out and walked out gingerly. All that to say we walked for a good 30 seconds or more which definitely upped my time. Still I was expecting over 35 minutes which was not the case.
Total Time: 34:15
Total Distance: 3.00
Pace: 11’24”The plan is to rest today and tomorrow, my leg is feeling a lot better today, but I don’t want to push it and regress. So weird to me that it hurt so bad for 2 days just from standing all day. Monday I will get back into it and I’m aiming to run 5 days over the next week: 3 days of endurance runs to make up for this week and two days at the track of running 3 laps to a passing time.
June 16, 2018 at 12:07 pm #80138@starbee Thank you! We walked Winnie for 1.25 miles. It was 65* and 99% humidity! Too much for this desert girl! I wouldn’t mind hiding out in FL though!!
Great job on your run! It’s always nerve wracking to come across a loose dog. I’m glad it worked out safely for everyone.June 16, 2018 at 12:09 pm #80140@10dedfish Wow!! Fantastic pace and distance!!!!!!!!!

10dedfish177 XP@eeyorepoohfan thanks! tomorrow is going to be a long slow run. It’ll be 4 days in a row I’ve run and I want to take it easy
June 16, 2018 at 4:04 pm #80147@eeyorepoohfan Thanks! 80% humidity is too much for me
June 16, 2018 at 4:32 pm #80149@10dedfish wow! Great job! You did awesome this morning! Best of luck tomorrow, slow and steady will win this race!
@starbee awesome job on your endurance! I’m so glad nothing bad came of the dog encounter. You can’t really judge your times with Leia, too many variables, but I think you did fantastic!June 16, 2018 at 8:40 pm #80156So a quick little update on me/us. I’m still turning laps and logging miles, every day. Every, day. So I’m very happy with the shape I’m in, wasn’t even tired at the end of the K-9 Falco Memorial 5k we did earlier this month. Plus, it’s summer and I won’t sit down now until October!
However, we have had some very stressful times in our life the past month and Kathy hasn’t been able to train like she wants. Then today, she looks down and her toenail is sticking straight up! Almost a full two months after she injured it at Star Wars Dark Side and it’s coming off! Heather saw it, but I won’t gross anyone here out with a picture. Plus, I can’t even look at it! So she is basically screwed with any training until that heals and grows back. So hopefully we’ll have enough time before Star Wars Pick Your Side in April for her to be well trained.June 16, 2018 at 10:28 pm #80158
VikingMickey53 XPBe patient, it should grow back just fine ?
I lost a nail to ill-fitting running shoes a while back and it did
grow back with time.June 17, 2018 at 6:58 am #80159Thanks @vikingmickey! I truly appreciate that!
