Very interesting. I understand why a location in California was chosen as the first project in this latest endeavor, but I’m not sure it is the best location given the number of people who are fleeing the state for various reasons. With fewer people moving to California it seems that this new community will have to mine buyers from the remaining population of the state. But, I’m sure Disney has done all of their homework and due diligence in selecting this first location. :P

Well yeah but I mean what’s the attraction to living in one of these communities? I don’t get it, I must be missing something. Like Golden Oak you’re on property, Celebration you’re super close to the magic and the ordinances keep you in a nice community, what makes this community any more related to Disney than the neighborhood I live in now?

Very good points, @starbee!! What is the draw to commit to live in a community like this that doesn’t boast the same amenities and proximity to Disney resort property? Living in a Disney-designed community AND being close (or on) Disney Parks and Resorts property justifies Disney setting a higher premium for the homes in Golden Oak and Celebration. The Disney name, absent amenities and proximity, are not worthy of what I assume will be homes that come with extravagant price tags. And without the amenities and proximity I have to ask why residential development was determined to be a worthy business venture.

I wonder after the giant hit they took in every single segment of their company (other than Disney+) if they are just looking to diversify so they have some positive growth in any future down market like the pandemic caused? That’s the only business sense I see here since it strays so far from their mission. I don’t know.

@ABeach they had better provide free Disney+ for people in those communities, or some Disney stock, or something like that.

@Goofyfan_Chuck Haha! For real! Maybe the Hulu/Disney+/ESPN+ bundle? Discounts on APs to Disneyland or WDW (whichever one is closest to the planned community). But something would be nice. ;)
