    Wednesday 11/4/20

This was supposed to be our Wine and Dine race trip, with both Kathy and me doing the 5k and me doing my first 10k with Heather and Robyn. Unfortunately COVID had other ideas and Disney was forced to cancel in person races. But we all decided to keep our trip dates and meet up, we couldn’t let a trip that had been planned for almost three years go to waste! And so we made the best of it! We were to work half day on Wednesday but due to low amounts of travelers Delta canceled that flight and offered us an earlier one. We adjusted our work schedules to take a mid-morning flight out. My brother-in-law graciously “ubered” us to the aiport. It was eerily quiet at DTW, half the shops and eateries were closed, including an entire end of the terminal. Middle seats were blocked so the plane was only about 2/3 full, which was technically a full flight in these times. We landed about 10 to 15 minutes early, right about 1:00 pm after a very smooth flight, lots of good mountain views as we flew over. Since we had to pick up our luggage with DME not doing it anymore, we grabbed a quick Chick-Fil-A before heading down to get our checked bag. If we thought DTW was quiet, it was almost nothing compared to MCO. I never thought I’d see that place so empty, especially in the middle of an afternoon! Only three eateries open and even those had hardly any customers. No lines at security at all. It was nice to not have to wait at luggage claim though, after our lunch our bag had already been pulled off and put to the side for us! We had about a 15 minute wat to check in at DME, and about a half hour wait for a bus. I fully expected all of this due to COVID so we just relaxed in line and didn’t worry or stress. We were on vacation! When we loaded onto the bus, it was only half full due to social distancing. It was an easy drive to Pop where we were assigned room 1268, Lady building in 50’s, facing the pool. We were so happy to see that it was an adjoining room when Heather texted that they were assigned 1269, right next door with us! We dropped our bags off and got our mug on the way out to catch the bus to Downtown Disney Springs for the evening. We got our own bus! We made it to DTD by 4:00, 3 hours after landing, with lunch thrown in. Not too bad at all! Temp check before entering was quick and easy, and we went to get our A/P’s activated with no wait. It was nice and uncrowded, being afternoon midweek. We made our way over to World of Disney and the shops for some shopping. We were tasked with finding some items for Chloe (starbee) and Kathy found those, plus some extras for her right away. She and we were so happy when we texted her! We browsed some more shops and enjoyed the atmosphere, then we had Earl of Sandwich BLT’s for dinner. Oh my gosh, they were so good! I forgot how good Earl of Sandwich is! Having full and happy bellies we saw the Lego Star Wars characters and got to watch the Rainforest Café’ volcano erupt. It was really awesome at night! We made our way out and waited maybe 90 seconds for a bus, our own bus again! Score! We got back home to Pop, unpacked, and heather and Ryan got there shortly after! Massive, huge, and long squeeze hugs ensued! I helped with getting their stuff to the room and we all enjoyed catching up for a couple hours before bed. It was a great travel/first day and we were so happy to be back Home!

What a great travel day! Everything went smoothly! It was amazing how quiet the airports were at this time! And what a great surprise for us to have connecting rooms! That really helped throughout the trip! I love that you had private busses too! Always makes us feel special when that happens!

Sounds like a good start to a trip! Seeing everything empty sure is quite an experience. Sad yet thrilling. Still so cool to have adjoining rooms! And Earl of Sandwich, excellent choice!!!!  :stitch:
