    Monday 11/9/20

I actually slept until one minute before the alarm! That was unusual and felt good! We had our donut holes for breakfast, which were delicious! We filled our mug and Heather drove us to Animal Kingdom, arriving at the parking booth by 8:00 am. I don’t know if the threat of weather had anything to do with it, but it was very light traffic! In fact the whole trip was very light traffic. We sure aren’t used to that! We were one of the first couple cars in the lot and worked our way in very quickly through bag check and security. First up was FoP where it was literally just walking through the queue without stopping! We’ve always had fastpass for this or been routed through the fastpass line at rope drop so it was really neat to finally see the queue, and especially the avatar! I had never seen it before! I’m so glad I paused for some pictures because it would be covered on Wednesday for our second day. We were on and off FoP before official park opening! The three of us went to Everest while Kathy rode Navi River Journey. We got to ride twice with no wait! And my name got on a poster! Heather and Ryan got Mickey bars and I got to see a couple boat cavalcades while they snacked. Those were really neat!

We made our way over to Safaris where Kathy was waiting for us and it was only about a 5 minute wait! We got to see Lauren’s high school friend who was our tour guide on Wild Africa Trek briefly too! It was so nice to see her! She’s pregnant so we gave her our congratulations! We saw lots of good activity on the Safari, the animals were liking the cloud cover. We made our way over to Dinosaur, pausing for some photopass pictures on the backside of the Tree of Life and saw the drummers boat and Pocahontas and Meeko on another. It was pretty much a walk through the queue for Dinosaur but it had a slight delay for something technical. It really wasn’t bad though. After that we all decided it was time for lunch so we had the pods at Satuli Canteen which were delicious as always!

After lunch we split for a bit so they could ride FoP again. Kathy can only handle it once a day without getting a little loopy. There were basically no waits in the park at all! We found a great AK spirit jersey for me and an AK blanket for both of us! We decided to get a Dole Whip with rum from our usual spot, Tamu Tamu Refreshments. Who did we run into but Robyn and her family! Weather was iffy today, it had rained while we were in the shop but we escaped it. Her family hadn’t! After enjoying our adult treat we strolled the Maharajah Jungle Trek where we saw the Komodo dragon up on its rock and the water buffalo chased a deer that was in their area! We also saw one tiger sleeping and one was up. To get a little foot break we found the mask relaxation zone behind the Tree of Life and enjoyed a little sit where we saw Mickey go by on his Christmas boat! It was today that we discovered that AK Christmas music is absolutely awesome! Probably one of our favorites! After the mask relaxation zone we worked our way back to Africa where Kathy found the spinner cart she had seen earlier. We chatted for so long with the most pleasant young lady CM ever! We wound up buying three spinners, two as presents for the kids and one for me! She was instrumental in helping us pick out just the right ones! We picked up the blanket we saw earlier and Kathy got herself a new fanny pack for when her current one wears out. We got some photos in front of the Tree of Life and Heather and Ryan met us there and also got pics.

Then we made our way out to the vehicle and DTD for dinner and Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin! It was such easy travel there thanks to Heather and Ryan and having the car! We all shopped for a bit, and got to see the Child Lego in the Lego Store. Oh my gosh, that was awesome! Then we walked over and checked into Homecomin at 6:10. Oh my goodness what a great place! They had been there but not us. Let me tell you, we will be back! It was all so good! And so much food! We took some chicken back with us! After filling our bellies to overflowing it was all we could all do to waddle out to the car and home so Heather and Ryan could pack up since they had to leave the next day and Kathy could rest her foot. We were really going to miss them and our adjoining rooms. We had just the best time with them and being able to have the doors open between the rooms was so great in the evenings!

Whatdaya mean you got your name on a poster?

In the small room just before the loading platform, where there is a switchback queue, there are a series of posters. Three or four of them I believe. Names of guests are shown on them in spots, similar to the concert posters in RnRC, but these are themed to the Himalayas and climbing.

Oh, they scan the RFID in the magic band and put people’s names on them or something? Pic too?

Yep, somewhere there has to be a scanner hidden before you enter. No pics, just the name. In RnRC it gives name and town where you’re “playing in concert” which is kind of cool.

At least they don’t show a pic. Not good to do that with people, especially kids. Not in today’s world.

It was such a great day! And beyond grateful that the weather held off! It was supposed to be a nasty day! The animals were so active, I loved it! I’m so glad you guys had such a good day with relaxing, snacking and shopping! You guys bought some great stuff!! Oh man, did we ever waddle out of dinner!! And we were so full that I forgot to text Robyn to meet up at DS! Food coma!! It was so great having connecting rooms! Especially at the end of the day! But not first thing in the morning! LOL It took a while for me to get functional! LOL LOL

Hehehe! I tried to be good in the mornings for you! But yeah, we really, really loved them in the evenings! It was so great to be connected with you guys and be able to talk. We really, really got lucky with the weather! It was supposed to be nasty so much of it! We did get some great souvenirs! So much so that we really didn’t buy any this past trip other than with a gift card.

I appreciated that! I REALLY am NOT a morning person!! But the evenings were nice, especially since the parks closed early. So we could sit in our rooms and visit easily! We got super lucky on weather! We were really concerned that nearly our entire trip was going to be nasty weather! Oh nice! That saved the money on your March trip for sure then!

it was so great having the evenings with you guys with the early park closings. It made us not miss the park time! We were so concerned about the weather, but it worked out really well! Yeah we kind of went wild this trip since we hadn’t been in so long.

Lots of fun in this day!!! The weather definitely had something to do with it. I think a hurricane was on the way but it was downgraded to a tropical storm at that time…which is why we were there too LOL Oh man, so glad you finally got to see the FoP queue! It’s such a fun experience! And that animatronic, oh it’s unreal! Glad you finally got to see that! And your name on Everest, exciting! And seeing your friend at the Safari, wow! And congrats to her!!! Sounds like lots of good animal encounters too! Especially on the Asia trek! Would love to see your spinner if you have a pic! ;) LOL Sounds like a good night at the Springs too! Glad you enjoyed it!!!

It was a great day! That hurricane had a lot to do with the lighter crowds, and fortunately didn’t really affect us adversely except for Thursday morning.
I can take a picture of my spinner later for you. The trick is remembering! LOL
