That’s just WAY too much money for the standard plan. And I do alcohol – never have. So adding money to the plan for something I’ll never get anyway makes no sense at all. Guess I’ll be skipping the DDP from now on.

It’s not just alcohol, it’s “specialty beverages” so it could be a smoothie or something!

On our last trip a lady paid for my husband’s counter service cuz she said “I have like 15 left for our family and we leave tomorrow”. it was a nice act of charity but shows how much food it is.

My mom gets it every time…but she is in her mid sixties and Disney is a laid back eat, do a couple things, eat, do a couple things kinda trip for them.

Aww! That was nice of her to spread some pixie dust!

We had a guy approach my husband and let him go on a “snack shopping spree” at the resort gift shop because they were checking out and had a TON of snack credits left. It was incredibly nice of them, and we had Cammie give some of the snacks to random kids that happened to walk by, but man it was a lot of wasted money!

We had one of Steve’s friend not use some of QS and a table service credit and a bunch of snack. So the last day, we went on a shopping spree and got everything to go. We had dinner for a week!

Historically, we’ve been strong supporters of DDP. For us, it typically has been a savings (more-so in the past than more recent trips). With the dining experiences we usually choose, the meals we select (a lot of seafood and/or steak dinners, and the fact we enjoy dessert (and apps when on the chosen plan), it has come out at least a value if not a steal. Even with more character dining last trip, traveling with the kids, there is not as much value for us now.

Although we love out Disney drinks, my wife and I are not big drinkers. Have 1 every-other day on vacation is a pretty accurate average over the course of all our trips (including before the little ones). I feel the new plan may pressure us to order more than we have, because we are technically paying for it.

Our approach in deciding on future DDPs will likely be the same. Decide where we are going to eat, what we are going to likely eat, and figure out mock bills. If DDP is close to or a better deal, we’ll buy it for the freedom of not second-guessing our food choices and having the meals pre-paid. If it looks like Disney is going to come out on top of the deal, we will try something different.

Desserts and apps aren’t included. And as someone else pointed out, you still have to tip so it’s not completely “pre paid”.
But yes, it’s always good to run the numbers! I always try to convince my clients to do that before opting for “free dining”. But disney does a great job convincing people it’s a great deal! LOL

We always purchased the dining plan as years ago it was a great value. Chelle was very kind and talked with me for our last trip even though I had already purchased a package through AAA. (won’t make that mistake again…) She told me that the dining plan was not worth it a lot of times so we took the plunge and had AAA take if off our trip. I kept up with our receipts and noticed, that even with buying alcoholic beverages sometimes, we still came out ahead of the dining plan. Now, in saying that you have to realize that my hubby and I split a lot of quick service meals and even for supper most times the 4 of us (two parents and two grown kids) split 3 meals. So what works for us may end up not working for others but for us it was better to not do the dining plan. :)

I’m glad to help! I’m probably one of very few travel agents that will talk you OUT of spending more money on a package LOL

Next time come straight to me instead of AAA ????

Another member went through a discount travel site once and has learned the same lesson – never do that Again! lol
