Welp, its been confirmed by Walt Disney World. Our beloved Illuminations – Reflections of Earth is going away, to be replaced by something new and improved. *sigh*
I know, I knoooooow that it’s time for a change…. but Ughhhh …. I really LOVE Illuminations!!!!! I also know that while Wishes was so epic…. the replacement of Happily Ever After is spectacular too. Only time will tell how this change compares to Illuminations.
@cammelot ….. I know you’ll be sad to hear of this change too.September 17, 2018 at 8:11 pm #88971This is the nature of Disney Parks.
Buzz Price once said that Walt’s worst nightmare was that nobody would come. He felt that if the parks were to survive, they had to change, bring in new things.
Just a part of being Disney Parks
September 17, 2018 at 8:16 pm #88972Well there goes my idea for an article this week!
September 17, 2018 at 8:20 pm #88973Yep SEJ, that has happened to me once or twice too.

thekillingjoke5 XPJust waiting anxiously for the Illuminations merchandise you KNOW Disney will sell for its final send offs…
September 17, 2018 at 10:22 pm #88989I’m glad to see Reflections of Earth next year just before the next millennium celebration, unfortunately it’s not going to happen. The show debuted 20 years during the 2000 era. First it’s the longest running nighttime spectacular in WDW. And second why couldn’t it made a two year contract after the new year in 2020? I have the album and also a huge die hard favorite nighttime show at Epcot.

How about an article on the new gondola photos that were captured this week?!?! Have you seen those?? They attached one to the main hub…. and lots of speculation has been chattered about it
September 18, 2018 at 10:05 am #89041*sigh* This makes me so sad! I know the show is old and a lot of people think it’s boring, but I love it! I hate to see it go. The music from the show is my absolute favorite from all of WDW! I hope whatever replaces it is spectacular!
September 18, 2018 at 10:13 am #89043I’ll be really sad it see it go! Its been present at EPCOT for all but my very first visit to WDW, its a big element of EPCOT to replace! I think its time to hit the jukebox for the exit music. I’m open to change, but it better be atleast as good as IROE.
September 18, 2018 at 10:13 am #89044As usual I am so torn about the changes. It is hard knowing they are getting rid of something I love, but I am hopeful whatever they replace it with will be equally as great! What emoji covers that emotion?
September 18, 2018 at 10:21 am #89047Illuminations is an incredible show. The barges are invented technology specifically for the show. That being said, if anyone is going to create a new spectacular show, it is Disney.
Their ability to innovate and think out of the box is why they are on the cutting edge. I dont remember his name off hand, but a retired President of Disneyland was interviewed and he made a comment. He was asked about innovation and his response was, “we were to dumb to know we can’t do it”. Disney more then anyone thinks to create the uncreated to do the untried. Just because it has never been done, doesnt mean they cannot create the tools to do it.

StupidJudy71 XPI Illuminations, (using those as fireworks!) I have the CD of the music in my car! But, I cannot wait to see what they replace it with! My boys are not fans, they think it’s too long. Like others have mentioned, we were sad when Wishes went away but look what we have now!
We will always have the music!
September 30, 2018 at 1:45 pm #90217Love love love the music from Illuminations! I know people are divided on this show but I personally like Illuminations. Having said that, I don’t think it’s Disney’s best nighttime show, but I’m happy it’s been around as long as it has. Illuminations has had a good run so I’m okay with it leaving for something new. As previously mentioned, Happily Ever After blew Wishes out of the water and was a very welcome change, so hopefully the successor to Illuminations will be equally amazing.
What I am most happy about is that we have good advance notice of Illuminations’s departure so that some of us will be able to catch it one last time before it enters the vault. That’s all I ask when Disney changes things is that they give a decent amount of time for people to take advantage of the attraction before it leaves forever. They usually fail in that respect so I’m pleasantly surprised in this instance

Jerrys1090 XPIt sounds like the new show will be technically spectacular, but IP (intellectual property) intensive. Here is a link to an article by the Orlando Sentinel:
Orlando Sentinel article on Illuminations ReplacementI’m not sure I’m happy about it. I can’t help it, I like EPCOT without Disney movie material all over the place. It was a nice change from being bombarded by them at the other parks.
December 11, 2018 at 9:08 am #96986I have only seen it twice, I wanted to see it this last trip but I was the only one on board and got voted down ???? now I’m mad I missed it
