Stadager7 XPI’m new, but already in love with this site. I have my favorite theme park music going in the background at work, it’s so motivating.
But I can’t help to wonder, how did all of this amazing music end up here? How did D-cot get access to it?
Another question, how many hours do I get “for free” each month?May 2, 2017 at 9:52 am #25135I cannot address the first question, here is my 2cents on your followup

What you’re really asking is, is the cost providing Value?
It does for me, and these are just some of my reasons, you must find your own.
1: It costs money to the owner for the servers I am using very often
2: I am here ALOT!
3: The music is without a doubt therapeutic to me. It is my moments of zen during the day
4: Chelle’s experience in planning Disney Vacations is over the top. I personally think if one is not using her, they are missing out. You dont know what you dont know, and Chelle knowsFor me. $2ish a month is MORE THEN WORTH IT, to have the freedom the site provides.
On top of all of that, this community is second to none when compared to any other internet mouse community. Ive been to many of them. This site far exceeds what is expect of the Disney way. The people here are helpful, friendly, respectful and promote the intent of the Mouse’s house.
As a retirement analyst, I counsel people and get them to embrace the word “value”. Value is a perception each of us have, and it is different for each person. I cannot define the value of this “site vs $” for you. All I can say is, for me, it is an incredible value.

Another question, how many hours do I get “for free” each month? My name is starbee and I am one of the moderators. Moderators have orange banners next to their name and we are here to help! I am not 100% sure “how the music got here”, but many tracks are available for purchase on iTunes. I can tell you though that the site owner keeps this site legit by paying royalties when every song is played, every time it’s played, no matter how long the song is played for (meaning whether you quit listening after 5 seconds who when the track ends, royalties are still paid). Therefore, D-Cot can allow listeners to listen to songs without getting in trouble, or shut down.
You are able to listen for 80 hours a month before your listening time will be cut off. It will reset the 1st of every month. To receive unlimited listening time, you would need to become a supporter, which costs $35 a year. This is not so that the site owner can make money, he works this site on his own as a hobby, he has a full time job plus a wife and kids. The donations supporters make pay for things like the royalties I mentioned, the domain name for the website, server costs, etc. D-Cot isn’t free to run, and all donations go toward keeping D-Cot alive. There are many other benefits to becoming a supporter, and you can find those here: https://www.d-cot.com/faq/

Stadager7 XPHi Starbee,
Thank you so much for answering. I’m sorry if it sounded like I was questioning if the page is paying royalties as they should. I was more amazed with the fact, that they have collected this huge amount of theme park music. English is not my first language, so sometimes it just comes out wrong :-)
I will for sure sign up as a supporter if I continue to listen to the music. I know a site like this must cost a lot and we should all share that cost.Thank you again for answering :-)

Don’t feel bad, I haven’t signed up as a supporter yet either because I tend to pick things up and put things down pretty quickly. I’m waiting to see if I use it all the time. PLUS I just had to pay $420 to fix my plumbing and I’m dead broke for a good while!

kimmykay112238 XPWelcome to both of you! I have been a member for a few years now and have been a supporter off and on throughout when able. In the beginning I was very much like both of you – just feeling it out! I would definitely say to also take advantage of the great community on here! I joined for the music but I love D-Cot for the people! If you are able to contribute as a support, it is DEFINITELY worth the cost. For me, being able to have an unlimited favorites list to add to is also key!
May 5, 2017 at 8:13 am #25782Hi, Stadager. Welcome to the community!
How did D-cot get access to it?
I have been collecting this music since 2006. It comes from various sources like live recordings, iTunes, YouTube and sometimes members will share their collections with me.
Another question, how many hours do I get “for free” each month?
starbee answered this one for you, spot on.
Thank you everyone for the kind words about this site! Enjoy your time here, Stadager.

Such kind words! Thank you!
Steve has collected the music from everywhere over many years! Some has been donated by other members, and some live streamed from one of our many trips (we are local). And, yes, ASCAP fees are paid so it’s all legit!

You’re welcome! It didn’t sound like that at all, no worries! I was just explaining why D-Cot has an advantage over other sites which come and go because they’re not above board, and also why D-Cot needs some financial support from members  having said that, there is absolutely no pressure to become a supporter! Steve is wonderful in allowing 80 hours of free listening time a month because he wants every Disney fan to enjoy the site, which is far more generous than other sites like this, both Disney and non-Disney. I understand that not everyone can contribute to D-Cot, and if all you can/want to give is $5 or something, it still helps! (But it won’t get you supporter status).
I’m curious, what is your first language? Your English is fantastic, I never would have known!
May 5, 2017 at 9:54 am #25832I did not intend to come off as if you dont support there is a negative perception. On other mouse sites, I can see that happening. Not here. Like I said, its the best House of Mouse community on the interwebs. Nobody is going to treat you differently if you dont have the Supporter banner. Just partake in the chatter, listen to the toons (Im Soarin at the moment!) and enjoy this community. Steve and Chelle are the best, and so are all of the people who participate in the forum games, advise, and just sharing their wonderful memories.

bexruns374 XPI haven’t become a supporter (yet) mostly because….well we’re about to go to DL for a few days and we had some unexpected medical expenses arise. HOWEVER….after all that is over with, it’s going to happen.
I love this community and the people in it. Ya’ll are great.May 5, 2017 at 5:35 pm #25881Thanks for the info I had no idea ! I am going to become a supporter on payday, I’m on here all the time ????

Stadager7 XPThank you so much for the warm welcome everyone. This already feels like an open and welcoming community. :mickey:

I’m from Denmark, so my first language is Danish.
