So for Christmas, I received a GoPro Hero 5 Black and I look forward to using it in the water parks as well as other non-Disney activities. However, I don’t think holding the camera on the slides as it is would be safe due to it’s small and wide-ish design. I’d like to know what accessories are permitted on the water slides but I’m having difficulty finding a definitive answer on the internet. Does anyone happen to know what is approved? Thanks
January 20, 2018 at 10:29 pm #63832How are you thinking about using it? Holding it on the pole or some other way? Universal are crazy strict even though I’ve seen YouTubers do it somehow. Disney never said anything to me about using my GoPro at Blizzard Beach. I had it on a wrist strap the entire time. I took it on slides, Teamboat Springs and the chairlift. I tried to find their official policy and read the signs but didn’t see anything about using a GoPro, just no selfie sticks.
I was however denied entry to Epcot one day because I had my GoPro in my bag on a handheld pole. The security officer said that wasn’t allowed. I told him it wasn’t a selfie stick, it didn’t extend and there was nothing on their signs that said no GoPros, but he said it didn’t matter “handheld poles” were not permitted. Guess what I saw later that day? Someone with a selfie stick
January 20, 2018 at 10:30 pm #63833Oh also I saw a couple people using their GoPro on a chest harness around WDW, including a kid wearing one at Blizzard Beach. But I don’t know if he used it on rides, I saw him at Lottawatta Lodge.
January 20, 2018 at 10:37 pm #63834Thank you for the insight @starbee. I don’t intend on using a pole, I find that kind of ridiculous
. I’m leaning towards wrist strap anyways.
I’ve noticed a few people recently with selfie sticks. They clearly sneaked them in and should be dealt with properly. It’s super frustrating. And I thought the Security officers weren’t supposed to stop people for GoPro poles. It’s clearly NOT a selfie stick ?___?
January 21, 2018 at 9:53 am #63845If they sneaked in selfie sticks that proves my point that Disney’s security is weak and inefficient. It bothered me more because I got told I couldn’t take something that wasn’t a selfie stick when there they are with the contraband item going about their day with no issues
I spent 10 days at Disney’s parks and only once did an officer tell me that was a problem. Pretty sure I brought the GoPro every day. Maybe he had a power complex or maybe they were poorly instructed on the rules. The security process was not consistent throughout the resort from my experience.
