****I WILL BE STREAMING LIVE ON YOUTUBE TONIGHT AROUND 8PM EST.****
DisneyFreak1970 will be showing us some pictures and videos from the special dessert party event at GMR last week. Afterwards I will be spinning the wheel to choose the winners of the t-shirts.

If you didn’t know, Disney is closing The Great Movie Ride and Universe of Energy :uoe: on Sunday, August 13th. As we say good-bye to these two beloved rides (thank you UOE for the 40 minutes nap in the A/C), we would like to thank all of our supporters :star: by doing limited released t-shirt giveaways for these attractions (@Chelle came up with the fantastic idea). Each shirt has a value of ~$26.

    HOW TO ENTER

WHEN WILL THE WINNER BE DRAWN?

    • Entries will close when the attractions close. :'( I will then take the names from the replies in this thread and put them into a random generator to pick the winner.
    • The winners will be drawn next week during a YouTube Live Stream (Subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRnE8EOK6i82vQ3QikBoOCA).
    • The winners will be contacted via a D-COT private message.

Good luck and thanks again for being a supporter!

I will never forget the feeling of surprise the first time my boat stopped and was ‘hijacked’! (I was in the Western portion at the time; it wasn’t until a few years later I realized it also happens in the mob portion!) After that, I LOVED sharing the ride with first timers to watch their reactions! :)

I am SO sad about these attractions closing but I’m loving the shirt and the giveaway!

The thing I will miss most about The Great Movie Ride is the homage it pays to old Hollywood classics like Casablanca and Singin’ in the Rain  those movies are so underappreciated in these days of CGI action movies

I always loved all the movie clips at the end of GMR. Made me want to grab a bucket of popcorn and watch them all!

And, even though we would skip UOE on some trips because it was so long, I still enjoyed it a lot. Ellen is always good fun! We last did that one about 4 years ago (2 trips ago).

I’m going to take care to experience both attractions one last time when we’re there in a few days!

:'( I will miss the feeling that I got when I rode TGMR. I loved riding through some of my favorite movies and feeling like I was part of the production. I loved the movie clips at the beginning and end of the ride.

I am looking forward to seeing what Disney will do next, but I know that I will miss TGMR dearly.

We have only seen UOE once and honestly that was plenty so I won’t miss it but TGMR was one of our favorites! I understand the need for progress but it was so much fun to see the old classics and have my kids ask questions about them. And don’t get me started on the music – what a wonderful golden age! I know that Disney has such high standards the next attraction will be wonderful but as for me and my house – we will miss TGMR!

The Universe of Energy is one of the few memories I hold of my first trip to Disney. As a 5 year-old who loved dinosaurs, to see those animatronic dinos was an amazing experience. As an adult, I enjoyed the break from walking and the sun, being to share (at least a portion) of a ride I enjoyed as a kid with my children, and the prospect of a nap for the little ones without leaving the park. I am sad to see it go, and disappointed with the way it is being replaced.

The Great Movie Ride is classic, it is iconic, it is what the studios was about… bringing the movies to the guests. With the constant push for movies to push the envelope of what is possible effect-wise, I feel the appreciation for the road to modern movies has been lost. The GMR presented an opportunity to teach the younger generations, in a fun manner. As a classic-movie buff, this one hurts.

We are very sad to see the GMR close. It was one of our must do’s on every trip.

As much as I joke about UOE, I am absolutely going to miss the dinosaur part! I love dinosaurs and I remember the first time I experienced it I was so impressed.

For the GMR it is a favorite because I love seeing the movie scenes. For me it is a toss up – I LOVED the Wizard of Oz section because it felt like we were in the movie. But I also love the part where we get hijacked because the first time I was legit freaked out!

I’m definitely going to miss GMR more than UOE but excited to see what comes next.

What I’ll miss most about Universe of Energy :uoe: is the scene with the dinosaurs. When I think back to my first trip as a 6-year-old boy, that is one thing that is fixed vividly in my memory. I remember being amazed at how real they looked and also scared that the Stegosaurus was going to fall off that cliff right onto us! :surprised: I never cheered so much against T-Rex in my life! ;)

Of these two, I’ll miss the Great Movie ride even more! It was borderline heartbreaking to find out it was closing with such short notice :'( Growing up I gained a great appreciation for films and film history and I thought the Great Movie ride paid homage to both quite well. “Singing in the Rain” and “Casablanca” had to be my favorites. I was so stunned when the gangster took over our ride vehicle the first time I got on the ride :surprised: I wondered for a bit, “Is this supposed to happen?” Also on that ride was my then 3-year-old cousin and it was memorable with her when we went through the Alien scene. She was so scared I thought her head was going to explode! Then I remembered head explosions are more appropriate for the Raiders of the Lost Ark scene, so that quelled my fear temporarily ;)

I feel like I should disqualify myself from the giveaway as a mod.
But anyway, here goes with what I will miss the most.
The Great Movie Ride: pretty close to everything. The ride is iconic and represented everything that the old “MGM Studios” was about in my opinion. Specifically I think I’ll miss the start, when you slowly pull away and go under the marquee, just like you are on the red carpet at some great show. I will also miss the montage at the end so much. I just can’t stop smiling when I see all those put together, and I smiled all through it when watching it Saturday with you on the ride. It makes me want to watch all of them!
Universe of Energy: the break! LOL Seriously, that is a huge plus to have that kind of break in the parks. I will miss Stupid Judy also! I was just telling my wife the other day that they should have Bill Nye, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ellen do a Jeopardy special with all winnings going to charity. That would be so much fun to see! It also represented so much of what Future World was intended to be in my opinion. Learning while being entertained, “edutainment” I believe I’ve seen it referenced on here.

All the movies on the screen at the end remind me of my Dad (who has passed away) who loved all the old movies such as Laurel & Hardy. It always made me smile.

The Great Movue Ride was always one of my favorites. My sister and I had a dream to play the tour guide and gangster one day. I’m even close to memorizing the tour guide’s script. When I became hooked to classic movies, I appreciated GMR even more. Watching Footlight Parade and The Searchers is credited to GMR. When the ride was renovated, I flipped my lid seeing the changing movie posters. I squealed seeing Dodge City, Gone With the Wind, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and other greats roll by. The movie montage at the end gives me goosebumps to this day. I like how they incorporated more Disney films into the new one. I’ll admit, I was weary of the GMR 2.0 at first, but it all came together beautifully. I would die to see Vivien Leigh’s GWTW dress that was on display for a while. Beside the gangster takeover, my favorite scene would have to be Yensid/Casablanca. Only Disney would go through the process of getting the actual helicopter from the film. Really, the overall atmosphere of GMR was great. The evening was the best time to visit. I will miss the Great Movie Ride something fierce. With its departure, we have no link to Hollywood/MGM’s opening day. Thanks for the memories GMR. “Hey kid, watch this. ???? No more red light.”

Will miss Universe of energy mainly because last year was our first (and last) time riding and we enjoyed it. ( It helps I like Ellen’s style of comedy). But the big miss will be Great Movie Eide, always a must do attraction, and it to me, was what the message of the Studios was supposed to be about, movies, and their legacyalways wondered how often they played the Western scenario in it though, we always got gangster up until I asked one of the CM, and they made sure we were able to ride the right time for it.

Here’s hoping the replacement attractions are worthy of their legacies.

I will miss the Great Movie Ride immensely. I actually really liked being in the movie theater queue watching the trailers for Mary Poppins and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and then walking into the loading zone area. I think my favorite segment of the attraction was the Wizard of Oz set. It was so well done…even down to the creepy munchkins peering out of the upstairs windows in Munchkinland. :)
