Walts Father, Elias was the son of Irish immigrants so my trip report below is ‘sort of’ Disney…. Atleast, thats what i’m claiming :)

I’d spent my past week visiting my sister, her fiance and my neice over in Ireland. Whilst on our trip we made a visit to Cobh (formally queenstown) which was the departure point for around half of the Irish immigrants who headed to the US (around 2.5 million), if you have any irish ancestors, perhaps this is the point where they will have departed Ireland .A plaque on the dock side commemorates a married couple who would should have missed their ship across the atlantic due to delayed trains, unfortunaly they made it just in time and where the last people to board the ship for their apparent new life in the USA, this ship was the Titanic, its last port of call before its doomed crossing.

Side note, its also home to Spike Island, a former millitary fort & prision, known as Irelands Alcatraz haha!

    Very nice!
Recently took one of those DNA tests (Yes, I am THAT you know) LOL I kid. But it says I’m 21% British and Irish. That was a surprise. I knew I was very Scandinavian, which I came up 58% and a bit French (10%), sot he Irish part was surprising!

Very interesting. The last name Disney was traced to France to a town called Isigny-sur-Mer. It is believe the Disney surname is derived from the town. The earliest known ancestor of Walt Disney, with a similar name, was Jean-Christophe d’Isigny (“of Isigny”), the branch settled in what is today called Norton Disney in England.
