February 22, 2019 at 10:27 pm #103221Finally getting some time to read these! I love the Alligator Bayou room! I want to stay there sometime. I still cant believe how cold it was and it shows! I think I would have been freaking out about running in that weather
February 23, 2019 at 10:20 am #103238The theme is fun! But the downsides to the AB rooms were no elevators, only three tiny drawers for clothing storage and it can be an absolute maze to navigate this area! Thankfully our room was right at the edge of AB and by the start of the Mansions so I didn’t get lost! We never ever even attempted to find the bus stop in this section! It’s so far out! We just used the bus stop by the mansion section we were close too.
It was seriously so cold! I don’t generally run in temps below freezing. So I wasn’t looking forward to standing in the cold and dark for the races!February 23, 2019 at 10:39 am #103256Running in the cold isn’t desirable for me, but I can handle it because usually I warm up eventually the coldest race I’ve ever run in was 23* with a “feels like” of 11* because of the wind chill. But standing around in the cold is something entirely different! I would HATE that!
February 23, 2019 at 10:54 am #103292The standing and waiting in the cold is the worst part! And at Disney races, you will stand in it for a good 1-2 hours before you start running! So throw away clothes/layers are key! And taking your own Mylar blankets! I learned by the second day that I needed two Mylar blankets! I tied one around my legs like a long skirt and tied the other around my shoulders and wrapped it tight. The dark, cold and wind were harsh that year! But it is nearly always cold before the start at Marathon Weekend.
February 23, 2019 at 11:08 am #103298I hate the cold but I bet it is better for the runners that way and not super hot and people getting sick from the heat !

This last 5k I did it was 20 degrees out, it was so cold and I was shocked at people that were wearing shorts !! I had 3 layers on
February 23, 2019 at 11:15 am #103302@breesmommy5 Absolutely! Cold is better and safer than running in the heat for sure! Those people were nuts running in shorts in those temps! I managed shorts and tank top for my full marathon. But I had on two pairs of arm sleeves, two pairs of gloves, ear covers and hand warmers. It was 40* for the start and would be 60* when I finished. I always dress for the finish temps and have disposable layers until I warm up. People looked at me like I was crazy at the start. But I saw people overdressed and were overheating by mile 20!
