I just read this article: Disney Removing “Do Not Disturb” Signs at Walt Disney World
I think that’s a very smart move allowing both guest privacy and added public safety

Agreed! Smart thinking on Disney’s part!
January 3, 2018 at 12:28 pm #61239Definitely a wise choice. Especially if you die in your room all alone (hopefully not suicidal) and you have the Do Not Disturb sign on, your death will be discovered sooner.
January 3, 2018 at 1:17 pm #61246I get it when it comes to the added safety/security aspect, but still I wonder how exactly this will play out on a day-to-day basis with guests who decide to linger around their room for a day or simply sleep in. Nothing like having to get dressed in a hurry so housekeeping can enter.
Of course some guests won’t even worry about that and the poor housekeepers doing their daily check could get an eye full I’m not speaking of myself, but there was that one time my wife and I walked by a room at the Grand Floridian where the wife was arguing with her husband whilst keeping the door wide open and the husband standing just inside wasn’t even wearing a smile!
It’s worth it to save lives, but they’ll likely be saving 1 life for every 100 cases of indecent exposure
January 3, 2018 at 1:55 pm #61248A lot of people have commented about privacy since this story first broke but, I’m pretty sure the deadbolts or flip-over lock things aren’t going anywhere. I mean, if you’re in the room and have the door locked, you may be “disturbed” by a knock but, you’re not terribly likely to be interrupted mid-shower.

Yep. That’s what I figure too. You might be disturbed but won’t be just walked in on.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. That makes sense.

This is true, I haven’t heard anything about those being removed. That will help prevent people from being walked in on if they are in the shower or something and may not even hear the knock! I guess this just helps remove the expectation that if you stick a sign on your door, no one will enter for days. If your door is deadlocked for days they also have the right to alert authorities if they suspect something malicious.

Yeah, I think that if they aren’t able to enter a room because it’s locked from the inside for a period longer than deemed reasonable, they’d escalate somehow.
January 3, 2018 at 6:07 pm #61293I think it’s a good idea, I have never been bothered by things that is done to keep us safe

bexruns374 XPI wonder if you decide you want to stay longer in your room on any day for some reason (you want a nap or whatever), you can call the front desk to let them know and they can relay it to housekeeping?

I do know from experience that you can call and REQUEST your room to be serviced / cleaned during a specific time period each day. We always request our room to be cleaned between 9am -12pm since we usually return to our room after lunch to lounge by the pool or to nap in the room. We have never had a problem with this request.

That’s good to know, I didn’t know that, but then with DVC they come once or at the very most twice during my stay so it’s not usually an issue.

Yes it is VERY helpful, especially if you have small children who take afternoon naps so then Mousekeeping is not coming in and waking them up. OR>>> in our case, we are old people and a teenager who want to take afternoon naps and don’t want to be woken up

AnonymousXPI think that it’s both a good thing and a bad thing. It’s a good thing because it makes the guests feel more safe, secure, and comfortable But I think it could be a kinda bad thing as well because my dad and brothers like to sleep in on some days, so I could be a problem for them if they want to sleep in later. Is it for all hotels or just for some? I think it’s for all, but I’m still not sure.
