@Nascfan Scott, you are so right on so many levels. And, I agree that the continued cost increases and diminished services make going regularly less attractive to us, not to mention it is getting more and more crowded at the parks. We usually fly in to MCO and take advantage of DME so the pay-for-parking announcement doesn’t affect us directly either.
We are planning a few more trips through 2022, but after that we may look into selling our DVC ownership. We purchased on the resale market before Disney starting taking perks away from resale owners. However, it is only a matter of time before we get swept up into their perk snatching.
March 14, 2018 at 3:58 pm #69589This really is terrible! I’m excited to be able to borrow DVC points to stay; but at $24/night for parking my car (actually, two cars for all of us staying in a 2BR villa) that’s an extra nearly $200 for our next trip. Just because we drive down there!
Boo, Disney! Bad form.
March 14, 2018 at 5:17 pm #69591Ive seen many Hotels do this. Usually it is your up scale properties.
Disney has a huge problem, popularity. The parks have a capacity, and they are meeting it, especially in the peak seasons.
Most of the changes target locals. People who are in driving distance or pass holders. Flying has its perks. Season passes, day passes etc are being squeezed out for the people spending large sums to go for multiple days.
This group is a captured clientele. The do everything on property. People with cars leave property to go eat, visit other amusement parks etc
Im not supporting the idea, but I can see the business reasons behind it

DizLuvrKAli83 XPWhat’s next… charging for the air we breathe?
They are really starting to tick me off.
Let’s just keep raising the price so you go broke when you visit them. But sad part, we’re still going to pay for it because we’re hooked!March 14, 2018 at 6:25 pm #69608But sad part, we’re still going to pay for it because we’re hooked!
Maybe it is time for the 12 Step Program.
Step 1: Admit you have a problem………
Me: WOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IM GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!

85glht22 XPDoes Disney want us to stay off site or something? Or not go to their property at all?
I think they think one of two things, either:
1) They’re hoping you’ll continue to stay on-site, but not bring your car, therefore you are locked in to being on Disney property for your entire trip. No eating or shopping elsewhere and no visiting Universal
2) They know every other nearby hotel does it and people still stay there, so they think they should jump on the bandwagon and do the same thing. After all, attendance is at a high despite other ways in which they’re nickel and diming guests so clearly no one will care
Either way, this is a mistake.
Other hotels around Disney do charge for parking BUT these said hotels don’t cost $300+ a night… depending on where you stay on property… this is a money grab scheme and I think it is a huge mistake… they are worse than the government!!
March 14, 2018 at 7:34 pm #69617I think they’re doing it because they can and and they know people will pay. I’ve been watching changes over the last couple of years. We used to love to stay on property but it’s just too expensive, especially when I can stay in an offsite property with a washer, dryer and kitchen for the same price as Pop Century per night. We keep the annual passes because it’s cost effective to use them for multiple stays through the year. The last few trips, the parks have been just packed. Never have I witnessed the lines at the quick service restaurants and all attractions with lines. We were lucky to get in to see the Tiki Room last trip. I’m thinking, what is going on? Since they are so popular, I think that they are limiting themselves on purpose because people that will pay and because they can collect it. I haven’t noticed the special offers and discounts they used to tout either. They don’t have to now that it is so popular to overflowing. Not much free dining and bounce back offers either. We were able to spend a week at the Animal Kingdom lodge two years ago with free deluxe dining in early June. That will never happen again. I’m just going to have to be creative I guess–book my meal at Jiko and enjoy the AKL that way.

10dedfish177 XPI think there has a been an unannounced coup de tat and Mickey is no longer in charge. In a late night session, Scrooge McDuck arrived with armed buzz lightyear figureines and imprisoned the mouse.

RIDisneyPinGuy182 XPI saw this earlier. I’m glad I’m DVC, so I won’t be affected by this change, but still I think it’s so dumb They should just raise the nightly rate if they want more money.
I liken this to when ice cream makers started selling us less ice cream for the same price. Don’t insult my intelligence, just raise the darn price! You’re going to do it soon enough anyway!
I totally agree! I’m DVC, too, and I still think it stinks for non-DVC guests! (And, I won’t be surprised one bit when they announce that DVC is suddenly included, too!)
Also factor that the bulk of new resort-room construction has been addition of DVC units. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is an effort to strong-arm people into buying DVC contracts by adding a ‘perk’ that really isn’t.

RIDisneyPinGuy182 XP@jlmct52 It’s because that is the most Disney thinks they can gouge the customers at each type of hotel. The shareholders need to get every last cent you know.
I’m a shareholder, and these moves over the past few years totally do not represent how I wish the company was ran. It is a select few it benefits, and those are the ones making the decisions.
