Is it just me or is Disney massively messing up with this whole re-opening thing? People who had their trips canceled could reschedule for June or later with free dining. No wait, sorry July. No wait, we are taking your free dining away and replacing it with a discount. Oh and we are canceling your fast passes…and your dining reservations…and your experience reservations. Come to think of it, we might not open your hotel. And that 6 day park hopper you bought? We might let you use 3 days of it…we will see cuz our new reservation system isn’t up and you need to get permission to go to the park now. And your two year old has to wear a face mask at the parks…which won’t have fire works…or parades…or character meets.

i see both sides. it’s definitely annoying and inconvenient, but it’s a pandemic that the world has never seen before. it’s not like there’s any kind of guiding principals disney can turn to, ya know what i mean? i would be super bummed if i had a trip planned amid all this chaos, especially with the masks and no fireworks/characters, but it makes sense why they’re doing it.

although i think the way they handled expiring points for DVC members was terrible. did they ever fix that? that was a real sh** move imo

I agree that a lot of their announcements have been very vague or unclear, plus some announcements have been “we have an announcement to make in the future, stay tuned” which doesn’t give you any information. I get that this are “unprecedented times” (by the way I am SO sick of hearing that!) but they need to not string people along and they should probably get their ducks in a row before they make these announcements.

@julia we rented DVC points…we have been told we have 3 years to re-use them or lose them. also i only get one chance to use them so if i only use half i’m out the difference. not sure if the people we rented from got them back or what? unfortunately no reservations are being allowed now so i sit and i wait. travel insurance says “pandemic isn’t covered” so i have no choice but to wait and hope something shows up that works for my family

i know they haven’t seen this before but Universal is beating them out of the gate to open and from what i’ve seen/read isn’t messing with people’s reservations. i would have expected Disney to be the leader in this type of situation but from week to week they appear to be changing their minds and be behind the curve. just extremely disappointed with them right now and the way they are treating their customers

Although I’m curious to know how Universal and Disney are expecting people to wear face masks on rides. Those are going to go flying everywhere if people try to wear them and if they take them off that defeats the point because now you’ve made it all germy by constantly taking it on and off, or in Universal’s case by putting it in a locker hundreds of other people have also used.

I really don’t see this as a Disney fail, but applaud them for taking the high road and not just rushing back in just to grab some cash. :gold: :coin: :chest:

Disney is not just “waiting” to open they are spending the time creating and vetting new policies and procedures. That takes time considering how large they are and they are doing it in an ever changing landscape.

    Let’s take BTMRR for example:

    1. How do you separate people by 6 feet in the queue and how do you restructure the queue so you are not coming face to face as the queue doubles back?
    2. How do you enforce the 6 foot rule?
    3. How do you sanitize the things people can touch in the queue.
    4. Now that we have finally made it thru the queue to the trains, which seats do we allow to be occupied to keep the social distancing? What about family groups larger than 2?
    5. As starbee asked, how do you know which face masks can survive the ride and which end up with the hats :ears: :donaldhat: :goofyhat: :woodyhat: :goofyhat2: :hatterhat: :monstershat: :hat: and glasses  we were warned about? Now, I think you just keep putting cast members on the ride with different masks to see what happens, dang, a tough job that many of us would probably be happy to help them out with. :)
    6. But whoa there pardner, a mask flew off in mid-ride, what is the collection protocol? Is it considered hazardous/toxic waste? I say at this point, yes. And does it immediately need to be returned to owner, otherwise they now have no face covering. Or do we collect at the end of a shift/day?
    7. Ride is over and guests have exited the train, now how do we sanitize the ride vehicle for the next guests?

Shew! And that is just what I can think of. But this kind of thinking/preparation has to extend from when a guest enters property at the main gate to when they leave property. If they don’t Disney takes the chance of harming a cast member or guest opening themselves up for law suits.

    My two cents worth.

LOL this reminds me i saw an article somewhere where they said “screaming is no longer allowed on rides like space mountain”. that might have been in the Shanghai DisneyLand but regardless it made me laugh!

@paydirtburt i don’t doubt they are working hard but it is excessive. do some extra cleaning, put markers in the queues so people don’t stand on top of each other and then make everyone sign a waiver that they are entering a public place and Disney can’t be held liable. if you are a person at risk then you shouldn’t go – plain and simple.

it’s the constant changing of their position that is the problem…they let people make reservations only to cancel them later. they gave away free dining only to take it away. it is not what i consider to be Disney’s normal level of customer service. when they shut down in march they should have set up a plan and closed off all reservations until the plan was in place. perhaps it is the change in leadership that is causing this lack of clear decision making. my husband said he’s done with Disney and with every new release of information and flip-flopping from them I am getting closer to agreeing with him.

It’s maddening!! I cannot make a comment without causing waves so I’ll keep my comments to myself… but with all that Disney is “trying” to do, it should just stay closed till we can get back to ‘normal”… and not this “new normal”

I am with you 100%! The reason Disney doesn’t do anything special for those whose plans were upended is because people still go to Disney in droves no matter what they do to us. I get so sick of everyone defending them and their insane price hikes etc. They took away free dining because I’m sure by now they have seen the numbers of people willing to go back as soon as they open and they realized that they don’t HAVE to offer any incentives. Disney will do what they always do and continue to gouge the ever loving crap out of us because we seem to enjoy it. Watching something the other day about when Michael Eisner raised prices astronomically during a time when the economy was down and Disney saw a major BOOST in sales. It’s like there’s something wrong in our brains that makes us think if it costs more, we must NEED it more. If we actually protested with our pocketbooks then and ONLY then would they have to rethink the price gouging. It’s a sad sad day when you can fly to Europe for over a week, AND go to Disney for less than what it costs you to drive to WDW for a long weekend. My last trip to Orlando was to go to Sea World and Universal with no Disney at all, but the virus messed up my plans. I had never EVER planned a trip with no Disney before, but that’s how much I’ve had it with them. If I go again, THEY will be the side trip, and Universal and other places will be the main objective. Never in a million years would I ever think I would be saying this, but we have arrived my friends.

I can’t seem to find the comment you’re referring to but please continue to post what you’d like and say how you feel :) you have not been out of line and everyone here is free to share their opinions and how they feel. If people disagree, they disagree. I don’t want anyone to feel like they are not welcome to share or be here because of a differing opinion. Now of course if things get inappropriate, the mods will step in, but we’re not there yet.

I couldn’t agree with this more. They should have stopped taking new reservations altogether immediately when they shut down. Get a plan in place to reopen, whenever that may be or was going to be, and new reservations should have been the last thing to come back online. Let things filter out first. I think it’s obvious at this point that they are going to be very limited capacity for a very long while so keep the number of people at a manageable level.

@jamiedawn27 I agree, I think this whole thing has been a little mangled by Disney. And you’re right, it’s the flip-flopping that makes it so frustrating. I know it’s an impossible situation, but that doesn’t mean they have to announce something only to go back on it completely a week later and announce something different! And the way they’ve handled DVC points just infuriates me. Right now, we’re going to lose 122 points from this year unless I can figure out a way to use them, which doesn’t seem likely at this point. That’s like a week and a half’s stay worth of points in some cases!! And the whole thing about limiting the number of park day reservations AP holders can make…I mean, really? It’s beyond aggravating.

@laprana Yeah that’s what I think! If they don’t know, I get it, but wait until you DO know before making announcements! I don’t think I understand how they’re handling DVC points. We used 2020’s points last year so I briefly glossed over the email I got but didn’t really take note. What’s causing you to lose your points? That would kill me :(

@Disneydana i’m with you girl…i know it takes a lot of money to run the parks but the park tickets are over $100/day right now. For my family of 5 it is over $500 for a day and that doesn’t include travel, hotel, food, park hopper, etc. The new stuff (Pandora and I’m sure Star Wars Land) is amazing but the old stuff is not being taken care of…rides are in disrepair (CoP his head fell forward, CBJ sound quality is so bad you can’t understand it, lots of rides like Figment and Speedway have been neglected), random things are open or not open based on time of year, and now with the new boarding group you could go all day and spend all that money and not even get on the rides you want.

    @laprana
i heard that the DVC folks were getting the short end of the stick. nothing like “use your points by the end of the year but the reservation system is down and if you come we probably will only let you go to the park for a day or two”. sounds like a potential lawsuit to me

don’t get me wrong peeps i LOVE Disney. i love Marvel and Star Wars and my closet is full of Disney shirts. But yesterday I pulled out a shirt that was NOT Disney on purpose. i’m tired of it. :(
