Iger has been wanting to retire for a few years. The last 24 months has been big for Disney and they asked he stay for it. With the final rollout of Disney+, the change is now happening

His replacement ran the parks, and based on what Cast Members have said about their paychecks, and what customers have said about the ticket increases….

This choice might be a hasty one.

If the predictions are right, coronavirus is going to start negatively impacting US tourism AND Disney parks attendance. Very sly move to get out before the bottom falls out of the stock for a bit

Ok here’s my prayer aka wishful thinking lol…..Please please please let this guy use this opportunity to say, “The price increases were becoming ridiculous and we’re going in a different direction and will be implementing deep discounts across the board.” LOL Stop laughing!!! :P You know Bob wasn’t going to go back and say he made a mistake, but this guy can definitely toss ol Bobby under the bus and become a hero! They’ll never admit to being greedy and going absolutely nuts on the prices, but they certainly could use a changing of the guards to back peddle a bit. Let’s all join hands and say a little prayer. lol

I remain hopeful :) at least Iger will stay to make a smooth transition, but you really have been seeing Chapek alot more lately so I guess they figured it was time.

As The Who once sang, meet the new boss… same as the old boss.

True, I’ve thought the same. We’re unlikely to see huge overhauls overnight. On the one hand there’s people who say Iger mentored Chapek, so will it be any different? But Iger never got ousted like Chapek did so there’s also that.

Agreed  , I think Iger did mentored Chapek, but Chapek took a quick and strong turn from the Iger way once he was in power.

I see Chapek as having several “faults” (they may not be actual faults but they are as it pertains to the CEO of the Disney Corp.), one he paid too much attention to Wall Street and not enough to the guests/cast (by that I mean all Disney guests not just the 1%) or just plain customer service, he seemed to lack interpersonal skills (which for the head of a media company is a bad thing), I’m not sure if he really had and big wild goals for DIsney, which I think it thrives on, and was too much of what do the numbers say versus going with his gut. All of these things I feel Iger is good at.

Will things change/be different? I think so, but as Starbee said “We’re unlikely to see huge overhauls overnight.” Iger does have to get his machine up and running again. Plus he is supposedly only here for a limited engagement of 2 years to groom the new CEO. But still I would expect him to enact things to right the ship with respect to guests, cast and Wall Street.

Will prices go down? I think not, but hay even under Iger we were complaining about cost, but he was better at selling it to us. Prices are up, but look at this shiny new Star Wars Land! :babyyoda:

A colleague and I were musing what if they did away with the 2pm park hopper requirement, with the caveat that you could hop to any park that has availability, if a park does not have availability then you have to wait till 2pm. Seems simple and would look like you have dropped the 2pm requirement. And how many people really hop before 2pm? :rabbit: Or for onsite guests no matter the park capacity you can make a selection for that park, and you get to park hop whenever you want. Once again the appearance of positive change and drives people to stay on site. TM Paydirt Burt :surprised:

But please don’t cry though, I bet Chapek is getting a pretty decent parting payout and will end up somewhere! :gold:

True, we were, but like you said it was different. Prices went up with Iger but we got new things. Under Chapek prices have gone up while:
    1) CMs got fired
    2) Entertainment got cut
    3) Perks got removed
    4) Services got discontinued
    5) More restrictions were imposed
    6) No new rides or attractions opened (you could make a case for Enchantment and Harmonious as new attractions but seems like no one asked for that nor do they want to keep it)

Hardly incentive to keep coughing up the dough
