Bird attack at Disney World leaves woman with traumatic brain injury
[The Independent] Chiara Giordano ,The Independent•May 29, 2019

A woman suffered severe brain injuries after she was attacked by a bird at Disney World, according to a lawsuit.

Lisa Dixon was allegedly left with a traumatic brain injury and herniated discs in her neck after the animal struck her in the head at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida in May 2017.

Her lawyer likened the force at which the bird struck her to being hit in the head by a baseball.

It is not clear what breed the bird was.

The woman, who is in her 30s and from nearby Celebration, Orlando, has filed a lawsuit at Orange Circuit Court, where she is seeking unspecified damages in excess of $15,000 (almost £12,000), according to The Associated Press.

It accuses Disney of failing to properly warn visitors of the dangers seasonal nesting birds pose, among other allegations.

The incident reportedly happened as Ms Dixon walked along a dock at Polynesian Village Resort where visitors can take a boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom or another resort, the lawsuit said.

In June 2016, Lane Graves died after he was snatched by an alligator at the shore of the Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

The two-year-old was on holiday with his parents Matt and Melissa Graves from Elkhorn, Nebraska, at the time.

Disney was not immediately available for comment when approached by The Independent.

I should sue my mother for her miscarriage because it deprived me of a sibling…….. A wild animal flies into her head and it is WDW’s fault. United States of the not responsible for our own lives

It’s always somebody else’s fault. Very few people seem to take personal responsibility anymore. I’m not saying it was the woman’s fault the bird did bird things but it’s not Disney’s fault either. Bird’s are gonna bird, ya know….. :smirk:

I can’t even respond. Too many non-D-Cot friendly words I want to use to describe her and her actions.

    SMH… :smirk:

Sadly, as long as there are lawyers willing to take these idiotic cases, they will continue to occur. And as long as money keeps being paid, you know people will try to push the envelope…

Seriously, does everything need a warning label?

Give.Me.A.Break…..same as all those lawsuits about how you burnt yourself with hot coffee…..what did you expect? Disney must now string all that clear fishing line over every walkway it has to prevent birds from flying at all.

    BREAKING NEWS: Birds fly!
I felt sympathy at first but then she had these demands and now I feel nothing

Also how dare they compare this to the gator incident. This is NOTHING like that.

this also leaves out what she was doing before the bird “attacked” her. we’ve all been outside before, birds don’t just attack someone who’s leaving them alone… :donald:

Exactly. And as someone above said, birds do bird things. Do you sue the city you’re in when seagulls steal your food when you’re at the beach? No. That’s your fault for being an idiot.

When I was in WDW, the day before I got married, a bird pooped on me outside of Country Bear Jamboree…. Should I hire a lawyer?

Oh! Also…. there was this time in WDW when the Enchanted Tiki Room was “Under New Management”. I didn’t appreciate the “new management” style. They have changed it since then, but I’ll never get my time back for sitting during that performance. Should I hire a lawyer?

Please… people need to stop with all these lawsuits.

Ummm..how is it Disney’s fault when a wild animal flies into you? Birds fly and poop where they wish. Good grief. I’ve learned to duck when they come at my head. So should they warn us about squirrels, rabbits, and other animals that may walk in front of us? That woman just wants money.

How dare Disney forget to turn on their magic bubble around the park so birds can’t fly in! LOL

As a paralegal, this makes me want to join Disney’s legal team just so I can help them fight this crap  I know they’ve got it down, but I would love to join them in standing up to this ridiculousness. Frivolous lawsuits :darn: me off in general, but especially when it’s aimed at Disney. Their deep pockets make them a target.
