okay i saw this wednesday… yeah not a fan. i personally did not like will smith as the genie. i mean, granted, he had some pretty big shoes to fill, but i feel like they should’ve gone with a comedian, like jim carrey (maybe i’m biased because i love jim carrey but still lol.) also, for those who’ve seen it, what the heck was up with that jasmine song at the climax of the movie?? i thought i was watching a music video?? such a bizarre choice, but whatever.

AND OKAY THEY GOT RID OF THE BEST SONG IN THE MOVIE! jafar’s reprise of “prince ali,” is so iconic, i love that song so much!! okay i’m done being negative now, “a whole new world” was actually really good and naomi scott has got some pipes on her!

I thought it was okay, don’t know if they got the cast choice right as they could have picked plenty of different people to be the characters. Can’t decide about Wills singing I think the role should have gone to Dywne Johnston, Ben Kingsley as Jafar and Navel Patel would be a good Aladdin. BATB just trumps the live action series reboots so fa, kind of a mixture between Slumdog Millionaire meets The Greatest Showman.

Just watched it on Disney+. Didn’t hate it. The core reaction from both of us was, “this was okay.” And that’s the best I expect from any of these live action remakes. I go into them just hoping not to hate them but fully expecting to do just that. It’s already been said but there will never be another Robin Williams. Robin Williams IS the Genie. I’m so glad Will Smith didn’t try to become him or replace him but rather seemed to just take it in his direction. That made it palatable. Jafar sucked. Yeah, definitely could have gotten someone, anyone better for that. Small matter, Iago was such a small part in this one, I kind of wish they would have gotten Gilbert Gottfried to do the voice. I think that would have paid a nice homage to the original.

Saw this finally when it came on Disney+. I was actually surprised as I was prepared to hate it but found I liked it very much. Will Smith, I thought, did a great job playing Genie as Will Smith & not trying to be Robin Williams (who could be). So I think it made the attention fall back on the other main characters and story & not so much on what humor was going to pop forth from Genie.
