Wildest Blast in the Wildernaaaaaaas

Back in the year 2015, Disneyland was shutting down numerous attractions and adding new effects of all sorts to celebrate the 60th anniversary. Among these effects were a new Peter Pan’s Flight, the Hatbox Ghost, and an explosion in Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The effect takes place in the third and final lift hill of the attraction, an indoor portion of the ride. As the train approaches the cave, a fuse is lit sending numerous flames on their way to dynamite. After the cave explodes, guests race their way back to the station.

The effect is quite awesome and impressive, and once it debuted, the question that immediately began popping up was, “When is it coming to Walt Disney World?” The last lift hill in the current version of Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a little boring, as the effects of a mine caving in no longer function. It’s just a lift hill in a cave. Even Disneyland Paris got the blast before Florida.

And so, the rumors popped up. It was expected to be a part of the Summer 2016 refurbishment, but if you’ve been on the Florida version in the past year, you’d know that didn’t happen. However, there is hope. Disneyland installed theirs as part of a significant anniversary, and soon Walt Disney World will have its own significant anniversary. Legend has it that the Magic Kingdom will close Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for the 50th anniversary and put the explosion effect in. It makes perfect sense.

( I couldn’t find a decent picture of the explosion from the ride, so here’s a screenshot from Cars 2 )

I personally love the effect and would love it in Florida. It’s a blast! And if any of you folks are shooting the messenger, best not, ’cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wildernaaaaaaaas!
