REVIEW: Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is such an immersive experience and Batuu is an incredible planet filled with action and adventure.

Millennium Falcon

“Bright Suns”

This the how you will be greeted by the natives on Batuu. When visiting Black Spire Outpost, a remote trading port, the Star Wars characters and stories really come to life – and Guests find themselves in the middle of the action. Seriously, you are in the middle of the action!

As we reached our destination we were immediately immersed. Black Spire Outpost is a 14-acre land filled with two attractions: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (opens Dec. 5, 2019). You can also find five food & beverage locations (Oga’s Cantina, Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, Ronto Roasters, the Milk Stand, and Kat Saka’s Kettle). There are nine merchandise locations (Droid Depot, Savi’s Workshop – Handbuilt Lightsabers, Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, Creature Stall, Toydarian Toymaker, Resistance Supply, First Order Cargo, Jewels of Bith, and Black Spire Outfitters).

The first piece of Star Wars we saw was an X-Wing and guess what? Chewbacca was working on it! Yes! That Wookie is a mechanical genius!

We decided to traverse the entire land to get our bearings straight. There is so much to see on Batuu! For us, it took 4 hours and that is with two 15 minute wait experiences on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and without the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance attraction open.

The most iconic feature you will enjoy here is the Millennium Falcon area. Take a look at these photos. It helps that the weather on Batuu was simply breathtaking.

What do you think? Right? I mean, this is just incredible! The first attraction we enjoyed was Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run which came in at a whopping 15 minute wait (which was really only 10). The queue line reminds us of Star Tours. The cool part is seeing the back of the Falcon (which we did not get a picture of).

You are then presented with cards that describe your responsibilities as either a Pilot, Gunner or Engineer. The first time around we were gunners. As you enter the Falcon you’ll notice as your feet hit the ground it has that metallic sound like the movies!

As a gunner you are seated in the second row. Your main responsibility is to, well, gun down the enemies. This was one of the easiest jobs out of the three. Since the attraction is interactive, depending on how good of a job you do Hondo will give you credits. These credits can be used in the Play Disney app.

Oga’s Cantina

After smuggling for Hondo we needed to cool down at the local watering hole. The natives pointed us over to Oga’s Cantina. This place was just filled with energy! We were surrounded by bounty hunters, smugglers, rogue traders, and weary travelers of all ages. DJ R-3X was mixing the music and providing some out-of-this-world beats. Our chemist provided us with some delicious concoctions.

Does DJ R-3X look familiar? He used to be a Starspeeder 3000 pilot. Star Tours? ????

Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo

We were still hungry so we headed over to the Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. Guests can eat inside a working hangar bay or in the rustic outdoor seating area surrounded by the crumbling walls of the old marketplace. The menu is not what you’d expect from a typical Disney counter-service restaurant. Maybe it’s because the ingredients come from across the galaxy. It’s more like Pandora, filled with healthier options. We thought this was a refreshing change.

Menu
Chicken
Fried Endorian Tip-Yip (kid’s menu item)

The chicken was a little dry (it would have been nice to have dip), but the entire dish was a success!

Ribs
Smoked Kaadu Ribs

The ribs were like nothing we ever had, in a good way! The flavor from it was just stunning. It was served with a blueberry muffin and cabbage slaw which we thought were interesting choices, but they fit pretty good.

Desserts
Oi-Oi Puff (bottom) and Batuu-bon (top). Michelle enjoyed the puff more and I enjoyed the bon more. However, both were enjoyable.

Kat Saka’s Kettle

The Coke bottles on Batuu are much different than what Guests see on planet Earth. These are round! The sweet and spicy popcorn gave our taste buds a conflicting, yet satisfying feel. The bottles make for a galactic souvenir to take home.

Black Spire Outpost

As you travel through the outpost you will encounter Chewbacca looking for parts to fix the Millennium Falcon and Rey is “laying low” as to not get caught by the First Order. Chewey is easier to find since he’s very brave and not afraid of the First Order.

We would love to go back now, but Batuu is only accepting travelers who meet a certain criteria. Cast Member previews are still happening and Annual Passholders grabbed their reservations already (but you can check to see if there’s still some spots available).

When you visit Black Spire Outpost be careful amid the brewing conflict between the Resistance and First Order. Storm Troopers are combing the outpost for any signs of Rebel spies or those wishing to join the Resistance. The Resistance is laying low and when encountered will ask you if you’re with them. Choose wisely.

Till the spires!
