Spaceship Earth Gets Re-imagined

Spaceship Earth is looking to get shiny “like a wealthy woman’s neck”.

If you planned your next Walt Disney World vacation (of course through Off to Neverland Travel 😉) after May 26th, you’re going to miss Spaceship Earth. 😢 According to the Disney Parks Blog, “The attraction is a crucial piece of the historic transformation already underway at EPCOT, and our team here at Walt Disney Imagineering is excited to start implementing our new vision for Spaceship Earth beginning May 26.”

It was posted somewhere that the refurbishment will take around two years. 🤷‍♂️ What changes can we expect for the re-imagined geosphere?

“The next iteration of Spaceship Earth will focus on the story of humanity, following our long journey from prehistoric humans to today brought to life with magic and depth that only Disney can deliver. Many of the moments you know and love will be updated in amazing ways, blended with brand-new scenes to tell a story about our human experience.”

In the above artist’s rendering of Egypt, which is part of the current version of the attraction, you’ll see a transformation through the power of light.

New Narration

Disney Parks Blog says we will hear new narration. Are there any guesses as to who it might be? 😁 Here is the list of narrators that’s blessed our ears over the years.

  • Vic Perrin: October 1, 1982 – May 25, 1986
  • Walter Cronkite: May 29, 1986 – August 15, 1994
  • Jeremy Irons: November 23, 1994 – July 9, 2007
  • Judi Dench: February 15, 2008 – present

We are excited for more updates and to see the new Spaceship Earth once it’s completed.

  1. I can’t believe Judie Dench has been narrator for twelve years! How time flies!

    • I am going to be SO sad when this changes and we lose her!! :(

      • I’m sad already knowing that I’ve seen it for the last time in the current form. And that was April 2019! And that it’ll be at least three years or more before I get to see it again. :(

  2. I never knew about Vic Perrin, probably because that’s the only version I haven’t experienced :P Jeremy Irons was my favorite  as for the next narrator, I hope and pray for it to be Patrick Stewart! :se:

That artist rendering gives me hope that this won’t be changed too much. I’m all for enhancements like that, but I don’t want a do-over. I also think it would have been neat to keep things like the old scene reflecting what is now video chat. Amazing that they predicted it way back when and now it’s a reality. I remember seeing stuff like that and thinking (like John from Carousel of Progress) “that’ll be the day!” and here we are.

  3. Oh that is right!! I keep forgetting your not there in April! We can cry together :(

  4. Two years to refurbish? NO WAY! I hope that is wrong. This is one of my family’s favorite rides and we’ll be visiting this year in September and sometime next year for the 50th anniversary. Keeping our fingers cross that it will be a much shorter refurb and they don’t change it to much. :se:

  5. I vote Mike Rowe or James Earl Jones! But it is a much needed update. Glad we will be able to catch it one last time in April!
