Disney's Hollywood Studios - Echo Lake - Christmas Area Loop

On D-COT’s Jukebox since December 11, 2017, you can hear how Disney’s Hollywood Studios joins with the rest of Walt Disney World in wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Merry Christmas…Say is there an echo here? Well, just Echo Lake! When strolling toward the end of Hollywood Blvd, facing the replica of Grauman’s Chinese Theater, if you turn left you’ll find a small lake with a steam boat and a rather large dinosaur in it. That’s Echo Lake and the threshold to the land of the same name.

The land of Echo Lake comprises some of Hollywood Studios’ noteworthy thrilling attractions like Star Tours: The Adventures Continue and the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.  In recent years it has also become home to a popular sing-a-long show called, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-a-long Celebration. The show is quite entertaining even if you don’t like to let it go and sing with everyone else.

Being in the midst of traveling from one attraction to another, most people don’t catch the significance of Echo Lake itself. The steamboat in Echo Lake, the S.S. Down the Hatch, is not only home to the counter service restaurant, Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner, but it also pays homage to the 1930 film, Min & Bill. The dinosaur is not only home to Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream, but it also pays homage to Gertie the Dinosaur (1914), one of the very earliest animated sequences ever created.  As for the water, it’s called Echo Lake because it forms the ear of one of the largest hidden Mickeys in Walt Disney World! The entire plaza in front of the Grauman Theater comprises Mickey’s face.

The music loop played around Echo Lake during the Christmas season is filled with classic songs by Burl Ives, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, and Bing Crosby among others.  Between the music and the decorations around Echo Lake, guests are treated to a holiday atmosphere fitting with the Hollywood theme.  As for those of us just listening on the Jukebox, D-COT members have played it 1,881 times in the past year. It has been added to the favorites of 37 members and Supporters have put it on 51 custom playlists. It holds a solid 5/5 average rating with 40 votes. This track is great for getting into the Christmas spirit no matter what you’re doing be it working, decorating, or just relaxing and soaking in your surroundings this time of year.  Until next time D-COTers, enjoy the music, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
