|
Friday, March 21, 2008 |
Disney executives and local community leaders gathered on March 19 to celebrate a dream come true — the completion of the new Walt Disney World Boys & Girls Club in Orlando's Pine Hills neighborhood.
The 25,000-square-foot facility was made possible in part by a $1 million contribution from the Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Worldwide Outreach made in May 2005 to rebuild the branch, which originally opened in 1960 and serves hundreds of local children and teens each year. The new facility will offer almost twice the programming space, making it possible to provide a productive after-school environment for an additional 200 children...
Working in partnership with our community's leaders, we are committed to helping make dreams come true for the children of Central Florida. Our children are our future, and this special place will offer them a positive environment in which to learn, grow and make lasting friendships. - Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton
The Walt Disney World Boys & Girls Club features separate areas for younger children and teenagers, 30 computer stations, two learning centers, two game rooms and a multi-purpose gym. The club will offer numerous educational programs, computer training, mentoring programs, a health and life skills center, career center, digital arts program and instruction in visual and performing arts.
Over the past three years, The Walt Disney Company has committed more than $7 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, including a $750,000 donation to the local Tupperware Brands Boys & Girls Club in Osceola County.
