Helping Kids Heal
Friday, August 29, 2008
Close to a year ago, Walt Disney World Co. and Disney Worldwide Outreach contributed $10 million to Florida Children's Hospital to build a seven-story children's hospital of the future.

A couple days ago, Disney announced a new facility that is currently under construction and is to be completed by 2010. It will be called Disney Children's Hospital. While The Walt Disney Company has long supported children's hospitals both locally and around the world, Disney Children's Hospital will be the first hospital to bear the Disney name.

This hospital will have 200 pediatric beds, a dedicated pediatric emergency department and a variety of advanced pediatric healthcare and surgery programs. The three-level lobby, designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, will feature characters from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Brother Bear and The Jungle Book. Innovative features such as an ambient experience that fills treatment rooms with animation, soft lighting and music will soothe and calm young patients and their families. Patient rooms will provide amenities such as video games, movies and Internet surfing as well as educational videos on a range of health topics.
