Walt Disney announced on Thursday that they will produce anime cartoons in Japan. Disney decided that they would like to "provide products that match the taste of the local market," according to Mariko Hisamitsu, a Disney Japan official. "We have few precedents for localization. Disney characters are well recognized in Japan and we believe providing contents catering to consumers is necessary to expand the market."
Disney says that it will start making a short children's animation series. The series will be called "Fireball" and will be about robots in the distant future and will air the show in April.
Disney will also be releasing a Japanese version of the popular cartoon "Lilo and Stitch", featuring a Japanese Island girl instead of a Hawaiian girl.
