4th of July at Fort Wilderness
Tuesday, July 08, 2008
4th of July is one of the busiest times of the year at Walt Disney World. It's the middle of the summer and families could have chosen to spend the morning sleeping in or may have opted to be the first ones on Main Street, U.S.A. But for many at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, this wasn't the case.

In the early hours of the morning, before the heat sets in, Guests at the campground were busy lining up at the annual parade route. Every Fourth of July, Guests and Cast Members get ready to see the pargo parade. This parade consists of Guests decorating their golf carts with a patriotic theme and a touch of Disney and is put together by the Recreation team.

Spirits are high and you can tell by all the contestants and fans call out with warm wishes for a happy Fourth of July. With a total of 157 golf carts and bikes registered for this year's parade, the following is staggering and a testament to the Cast Members' hard work leading up the event.

The first category is for "Most Creative", which included a patriotic bicycle girl, a Country RV with outhouse in tow and a giant Wall-E as its winners. Winners walked away with a one-hour boat rental for four at the campground. There was an honorable mention for the Uncle Sam bike, as well as a bagpiper who comes every year with a kilt and all.

The last category is "Best Overall." In third place was a High School Musical golf cart decked out with young cheerleaders leading the way. Second place went to the "Hats of America" cart, and first was the "Fun in the Sun" sandcastle with music from "Lilo and Stitch." Their prizes included a complimentary meal for four at various restaurants, with the grand prize being a meal at Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.

There's always something to do at Disney.
